Aye Callmack check out the Souths online shop as there is some memorabilia for Sutto!

I've bought a mug as a gift to my Father and I've bought a picture thingy unframed which I can get laminated!!

https://shop.rabbitohs.com.au/sutton-300/

I've also changed my avatar on here and my wallpaper on my IPAD this week!

By the way it's Gags 150th NRL match too!

Plus Clarky is back as I thought. Seibs said how he's bought a lot of the bench for us this year and it's fitting he's back for Sutto' 300th! That was in Seibs members insights this morning! Seibs also said he's well aware of the threats the Tigers possess and that we will look at them diligently and how to best cover them....

Wow coffee mugs sold out already. I got a tshirt and a couple of the stubby holders. Would love the limited lithograph but I’m on a savings spree at the moment. Hopefully can save enough for a tour for the round zero game next season.

Not only all the extra games but also the more modern methods of dealing with injury. If you think back as little as 15 - 20 years ago for example, if you ruptured your ACL that was a career ending injury. Nowadays, players are back in around 8 months or so. It's conceivable that if a player ruptured an ACL in the last game of the season, they could well be back and ready for the first game of the next season. GI did his in game one last year and if we'd have made the finals, I'm reliably informed that he would have played in them.

The fact that we haven't had one or two more 300 gamers is probably testament to how poor we were in the years following reinstatement. Any young bloke with a bit of talent went elsewhere and we really struggled to attract any marquee players for 20 years or so.

In a lot of ways, Sutto is an anomaly. He really should have played rep footy at some point but he never did, mainly because he stuck with Souths and our overall shitness for many of those years affected his ability to be picked in rep sides. However, on the flip side of that, I think he spent a fair bit of his NRL career in cruise control as well. Happy to bob along as a big fish in the small pond. On top of this, I don't think being moved around to 5/8 and even centre in the early days, helped him either. He is and always has been a back rower.

I guess the prime example of what Sutto could have achieved would be someone like Braith Anasta. Braith was never as talented as John but he chased premierships and always went to competitive teams and as a result he made a few rep teams as well.

When Sutto really puts in, he is a great footballer. If you look at him this year, he's probably one of the top three back rowers in the competition and he's absolutely killing it. Last three years however... Not so much.

Anyway, it's an amazing achievement and well deserved. I hope we can get a win for him on the weekend.
Imo, that is a testimant to Sutto though that he didn't go chasing that premiership with another club. He didn't take the easy way out, he stayed loyal to the club he absoulutely loves and eventually got what he was looking for in 2014. That is true greatness if you ask me.

Anyway, Love the Sutto memorabilia on sale, I just bought a T-shirt and the unframed print.

Here's think link if anyone hasn't seen it yet: https://shop.rabbitohs.com.au/sutton-300/

I wonder if he would sign the print at a signing day. That would be awesome.

I agree with all of this but would also have to add that our poor management over many years also contributed greatly to this. The first of the 300 gamers was Geoff Gerard about 30 years ago I believe.

Around the same time, South's moved on two club legends in Mario and Tugger, who both similarly to Sutto, could have left for more dollars or higher rep honours elsewhere. Our management at the time chose to reward this loyalty by pushing them out of the club as they entered the final years of their careers.

Mario played 274 NSWRL/ARL games (181 for Souths) and Tugger played 286 (216 for Souths). Both of these Rabbitoh's legends should have been allowed to play out their career with us IMO and would have come very close to 300 games. Coleman, may well have got there as after being released by us at the end of 1992 he was late signing with the GC for '93 and ended up playing the 1993 season with the Coogee Wombats.

However, on the flip side of that, I think he spent a fair bit of his NRL career in cruise control as well. Happy to bob along as a big fish in the small pond. Agreed, last year in particular Sutto was abysmal at times. I remember one game where his goal line defence would have made Bryce Cartwright proud. I was quite opposed to renewing his contract as in some games it appeared as though he just didn't care anymore.

Anyway, I'm proud to put my hand up and say I was wrong about him. He has really turned it around this year and I am so glad to see him bringing up his 300th this week. IMO he is in the best form of his career this season, and would not have looked out of place in a Blues jumper this year. If he maintains his form, I hope that we find room for him in next years roster.

It is confirmed, I’m travelling south for my first ever Rabbitohs game in Sydney. I’m pumped! If anyone is keen to catch up, message me and we’ll see what we can do.
Hi mate,
I haven't been able to get to a game all year but am desperately trying to make it happen for this one.

I don't think it's going to happen, but would love to catch up if we could make it happen. Either way it should be a wonderful occasion, so enjoy.

Congratulations to John Sutton. 1st Rabbitoh to hit 300 Nrl games.

Top clubman and premiership winning captain, apparently goes alright in the surf too.View attachment 21469
Hey Rabbit toes,
I love this thread and hope you keep them going (Sutto's 301, 302 game thread etc.)

I would like to thank both Travitoh and yourself for the work you have done with the 3,2,1 threads this year and let you know that I don't agree with the way it was railroaded by one poster and has now been taken off you guys, after you had done such a great job all year.

I note that neither of you have posted in this weeks thread, and I can't say I blame you. To be fair many of us seem to be choosing not too post there. If one of you chose to start a Man of the Match thread, I would be glad to post my thoughts there, as I'm sure many others would also.

In the absence of this thread, I will post my man of the match thoughts in the Sutto Match count thread. I hope neither of you object to this.

Last week vs Bulldogs.

MOM : Reyno, closely followed by:
Cook
Sam

Cheers, fellas and like I said I'm sure I'm not the only one that has appreciated your work this year.

Stan.

All the mugs are sold mate currently it seems!

What puts a downer on things is we have to deal with Cecchin again..... he sure gave us bloody bullshit against Cowboys a couple of weeks ago...... can't stand him!!

I always had this feeling we'd get him for this game especially with the Wests fairytale do or die!!!

A few years ago he reffed a Souths v Tigers match and we were just reffed out of the game mate and 9-3 penalties against.... we had no hope........

Sutto' 300th and we have to deal with this BS now...

We are good enough to overcome Cecchin.

But Yea, this will be a tough one, just look at the way the Tigers have played against top four teams so far. They certainly lift for the big games and this will be no different.

As I said in the Sutton 300 games thread, huge, huge congrats to Sutto on this one and I can't wait for Saturday!!! This is literally one of the biggest games in Souths history, no joke as we celebrate the great Sutto and his wonderful achievement.

It really is amazing when you consider the players that have been out our club how Sutto is gonna be the first to reach 300 in the mighty Red and Green in our 110 year history.

Sutto is the greatest clubman this club has ever seen, one of the all time greats. He could have quite easily left many times in his career but he is the benchmark for service and loyalty.

I really hope Seibs makes him captain for this one, that'd be awesome.

As a tribute to Sutto, you may notice my avatar is slightly different and I have a signature under my posts for this week. I wanted to somewhat pay tribute to Sutto so I made that up (it's like what will be on his jersey on Saturday).

I believe we have another milestone in this one too because it's Gagai's 150th.

This is not going to be any easy game at all, could be quite tough actually. The Tigers played so good against the Dragons yesterday and we are gonna have to be on song because they'll want to spoil Sutto's party for sure!

No way he should be made captain. I know this is a big achievement but nothing should be upsetting the side we have bigger things planned for this season. I’m sure he would agree also.

Yeah I hope your right mate.... a few calls against and we have overcome them thus far.

I got the unframed thing too. I wanted the framed one bro but unfortunately don't have the spare money. I bought my Father the mug as a gift and they went like hot cakes...

actually the last time cecchin refereed a wests souths game the penalties were 7-4 wests way. in 2 of the last 3 games the tigers have beaten souths the bunnies have won the penalty count.

the facts show that souths have a better winning percentage with cecchin then games without him since he started refereeing

Well past 5-6 years we have had lots of dodgy calls off him!!

Keep in mind in those games he wouldn't have aalways been lead ref!

I also know of many Souths members that can't stand him. I spoke with 4 of them yesterday actually........
