Mitch Kenny Whacks dudes! If that makes him a plodder, I wish we had more plodders.

Yes he whacks dudes.

You know what you are getting from him every week and he rarely has a bad game

BUT

If you were to put him against other hookers in say a skills combine.

He would be in the bottom few for speed
Kicking game
Doesn't have footwork
most would probably get him for passing accuracy

However he puts in 7/10 most weeks and in the top couple for defence

rarely has 2 shockers in a row and that why Ivan prefers him over a more skillful hooker

sides like Parra have no one that fits this role hence why it isn't a bad thing

as for more plodders lets break down our squad

Edwards
To'o
Cleary
Yeo

Are the best in their positions, They would be in the elite category

JFH and Luai were in this category. As too Crichton back in the day

Henry
Smith
Kenny
Garner

Are the plodders. You are rarely getting a bad game from them. They will play big minutes, make a stack of tackles and generally do a mountain of work.

Like with Kenny all have more skillful but vastly less consistent guys in the league. these guys suit our play but them playing well aren't going to win matches for us.

Then you have Martin, Tago and Moses. They are good enough to be in the elite category but until now haven't been consistent enough.

All do step up in big games and because of guys like Kenny etc carrying them on their down periods doesn't hurt the side.

So you put those together and we have most areas of the game covered. It allows us to do things like play Papalli as an impact forward because the guys mentioned above will have the ugly part of the game covered.

So that is what I mean when I say Henry should start not off the bench. The things he does well are better for tiring forwards out. Allow the x factor and power players to do their thing. Atleast until we get some young guys into either of the categories mentioned.

With Liam Henry available this week I would like to see Luron Patea keep his place in the 17. We all know what Eiso offers and Patea needs more minutes in FG. An ideal opportunity against a weak Roosters pack.

Captain of the plod 17

Peter Jorgensen
Jorgo wasn't plod. On his day he was an excellent fullback, problem was those days weren't that regular.

Memory is a bit hazy to be fair, you might be right on 2nd thought, don't recall too many shockers, so maybe he was plod with the odd game of brilliance thrown in occasionally.

He was pretty slow for a FB and some how managed to score 52 tries from 100 games.

I will have to get some old games on but I remember he was the Edwards style of just following the ball and being safe under kicks. Can't remember too many passes

Far out, now you introduce a new version of plodder. Can y’all talk and make your mind up. Sounds like your version of plod is still in the running to make Rep sides.

For me, a plodder is a player struggling to get a game in first grade, but just keeps plodding along and getting a game where he can.

It’s certainly not a player that’s just been an integral part of 3 premierships in a row. Mitch Kenny is an elite defender.

So what would you call Kenny then?

He isn't fast
He isn't powerful
He doesn't have the x factor of some

I used the same words to describe Josh Jackson who was also a handy player but again lack certain areas

We are agreeing here, just some people get their nuts in a vice over the words u

I agree Luke; but it is just defending.

Our game recently has been built on tiring the opposition middles out to the extent they are ineffectual. That starts with the length and accuracy of the pass out of dummy half.

That he does so regularly while setting his body shape up to go the other way not only brings some deception, but shows that the guy is strong as an ox.

I shake my head at the talk of ‘combines’. Some people need to raise their head from the SuperCoachTM spreadsheet and watch (and most importantly) understand the game.

He’s an 80 minute NRL hooker.

I think term comes across as quite negative.

It doesn’t sound like that’s your intention, but plenty on here have used it that way.

He’s a lot closer to elite than he is a plodder.

I’d definitely call him an excellent player who has the ability to suck the energy out of an opposing forward back.

You don't think that Garner, Sorro, Yeo all those strong hardworkers that fit that mould all do the same?

That is the problem we are talking what the best 1% of RL players on earth?

That is what the measurement is against. X factor player, Elite, fast, powerful, aggressive. Plod, Fringe, NSW Cup standard ate probably the categories
