Saw yesterdays highlights only. Tuipoluto seems to be a pretty good winger. He isn’t bog slow either and winds up well. Big run straight through the Rabbitohs forward defence 1 st half was impressive. Also, pushed around opposition and set up for Kyle‘s try.

Also, watched very short cup highlights. Last weeks shorts highlights also. Our half back Glover is very quick and fires accurate bullet passes. A touch of Sowie but in 2 nd grade. He seems to really trouble defence and have a presence.Of course, some posters see a lot of him and I may be only seeing ‘rose coloured’ snatches of brilliance.

Is he a 1st grade option?

Have had tome to calm down though don’t think i could ever forget yesterdays game. Up by 12 with that much experience in our squad and we couldn’t ice it.
yes our halves should have guided us o victory though surely the experienced players could have stepped up and got us into the right spots.
only players that deserve credit are Gutho (attacked solid) Stewart & Couchman.
No heart by the rest of them.
where do we go from here?
do changes happen?
I think klem for lawrie as we know and I think Loko will get a bench spot .
Cook, Guler & Illias riding a fine line.

I have avoided posting to give myself some time to gather my thoughts.

First 2 games:

low energy

No line speed

Soft defence near out goal line

No killer instinct

Causes:

Very hot conditions

Training techniques

Possible player fallout from Molo incident

We simply lack the cattle and are playing senior players when we should be promoting KOE forwards

Forward Solutions:

Drop Lawrie
Luc Leilua to the bench
Drop RFM
Stewart to start
Cook/Liddle to share game time equally

Klemmer/Sele hopefully available for round 4

Consider elevating LPT to 17

Halves:

LKT to be considered if halves don’t improve by end of round 7

Halves lack the ability to manage the game

Sloan should be utilised to chase chip kicks. Only player we have with exceptional speed. Find ways to use that speed.

Interesting re your Molo thoughts.
I’ve had the same just maybe 🤔

Sorry guys just off subject just watching the Tigers playing Parra half time 16 nil ...... Pleasure to watch speed all over the park even Bird is reacting quicker ........ Good blend of youth and seasoned players ........ Can't beat speed something we are not ........

Is Ilias our only kicker? We might need to stick with him for no other reason. If Gutho was moved to the halves, who kicks?
Kicking is so important now that a modern team can essentially be built around a good kicker. If you don't have a good kicking 6 or 7, you will always be in trouble for field position. It was a mistake to sign Ilias as he is a mediocre kicker.

Any chance of us ever having quick play the ball speed to get out of our own end? Got rid of Ben chunt to replace him with a 2.0 version of himself in illias. Not to mention bunnies were applying no pressure on our kicks … feel like this is some kind of sick time warp and we are stuck in 2024 again.

Melbourne will have us at a similar scoreline as they had parra in round 1 if we come close to dishing up that second half performance.

All good ideas. We will probably end up with Gutho 6, KF 7 and Sloan1. KF + LKT did combine well last year but thst still leaves us without a long kicker.

I might shut down and come back in 2027 when all of the dead wood and time servers have moved on.

Not sure if mentioned, but Triple M reported that Flanno called Ilias to apologise for his presser comments.

Telegraph Sport
@telegraph_sport

Shane Flanagan has picked up the phone and apologised to his struggling halfback Lachlan Ilias for his heat-of-the-moment press-conference comments after the loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs. DETAILS http://bit.ly/3DIXkUm
As he should. Very disappointing comments yesterday,

As for our belief that we can somehow win for being in the grind is pure fantasy......we dont know the meaning of grind.....on most occasions we get ground......

Sadly we are Mentally weak week in week out
Except for Gutho the best on ground yesterday was Campbell Graham and he's hardly played for over a year ...now that's an example of Mentally strong
Campbell Graham has pretty much won Souths 2 games in 2 weeks they had no business winning. If he wasn’t playing yesterday I think CT would’ve scored another hat trick. Rock solid in defence.

Nothing to lose! He looks the deal ... instinctive, sharp, creative. Bring a dynamic we lack in our halves pairing.
Ilias appears struggling under weight of expectation... a run in the Cup might be what he needs.

I thought Ilias went alright. Nice little passes in our tries; tackled really hard and kicked deep. More experienced players in our team made more errors than him that proved costly. I'd leave him where he is and let him grow in confidence.
It's nice to hear a different take on Lachlan. Tbh I didn't think he was woeful. I'm not a huge believer having watched him at Souths but I hope he can play better next match and keep his spot. For the first hour as a team we respected the ball and seemed quite balanced in attack. His kicking game is needed and hopefully will improve.

Where that game was lost was through effort and the players probably thinking they had it won. There's no single player that needs to be singled out on this occasion, Holmes and Ilias included.

The casual way Humpheries turned and slotted that shot with a line of our blokes just standing like statues says everything I need to know. Our collective attitude has not improved.
