Round 2 vs Souths

It's not my list. It's the SMH list. They compiled it. I'm just presenting the figures as they stated them. If you have better figures, please provide them. People often state what a great junior nursery we have, but when you look for data, there's no evidence that this is in fact the case.

It's irrelevant whose list it is as it is wrong. They need to add the Wollongong city and surrounds to the South Coast numbers to give you the total numbers. Of course we sit at 10th if more than half our junior numbers ARE NOT counted. I don't know how to say it any other way for you to understand that South Coast Group 7 is just ONE junior area in the Illawarra. This doesn't include the far South like Milton, Moruya, etc and it definitely isn't counting Wests, Dapto, Corrimal, Thirroul, Helensburgh, Collegians, Wollongong, Berkeley, Windang. All of which have juniors that DO NOT fit under the South Coast Group 7 umbrella.

I see you like making assertions without providing any evidence. Juniors from Wollongong city and surrounds must number less than 4330, or they would be on the list in 10th place. They're not on the list, so there's less juniors there than in Cronulla. They're a long way from being a powerhouse junior nursery.

No, I don't have numbers. Why would I. I'm not currently involved. But are Collegians juniors from under 9s to under 18s invisible. A lot of these clubs have so many juniors that have multiple teams in each age group. Wests, Dapto, Thirroul, etc would have similar. When I coached a team for about 3 seasons, they had 4 teams competing in the age group. Other age groups and other clubs were similar. As an example Dapto had Dapto under 14 Golds, under 14 Blues, etc. Juniors from Wollongong city and surrounds like South Coast Group 7 juniors need to be added together to give you the total numbers. They are not competing for a position on that list as they ARE ALL Illawarra junior. The two sets of juniors need to be + added together. So let's say hypothetically, Wollongong has 5000 juniors and SCGroup 7 have 4330 then Illawarra's total junior numbers are 9330. The Wollongong numbers have been left of the total numbers. It isn't one or the other. The formula for number of juniors in the Illawarra is ..... SCG7 + Wollongong = Illawarra.

What he's saying is that Group 7 does not include Wollongong. It's from Shellharbour down to Ulladulla or something. So if you add Wollongong to it (I presume it's 2 thousand at a very low estimate) it would bump the greater Illawarra catchment up the list a few spots

Agree 100% hasn't helped Brisbane over the years bringing success and they are on top .
Look at Melbourne how successful they are with out juniors it comes down to coaching and development

The actual nursery is large. There is another thread that shows the 2024 junior numbers.

But I agree that we have needed to do much better in bringing the right juniors through to NRL.

Two different discussions. Our junior nursery is large and has loads of talent.

What we do with it is a separate issue.

My guess is that we'd have similar numbers to Newcastle.

Bearing this in mind there was no leadership from these experienced players who have hundreds of games under their belts. I thought they lost direction and more than likely didn’t stick to the game plan under pressure.

Agree That trio failed their duty to stand up in the closing stages when fatique was setting in and our lead was dwindling. Surely they'd have nutted out that as a two game Dragon rookie still learning our game structure, Ilias needed some experienced guidance.

Ilias . He was attempting to stop Gray scoring. What else was he expected to do, watch him. No way should a try have been given, fumbled it cold. Cost us 6 valuable points. Add Holmes off kicking day and we had over a dozen points snatched from us.

Anyone notice that Sloan got put on report for a head high yet was not charged by the MRC. It was again at a crucial stage and Sloan saved a try yet he got penalised. I don't even think Klein called it but the Bunker intervened and the rest is as you know. I thought the bunker intervene's if it is clear and obvius foul play? From memory Souths got a try out of that set or close to it, instead of Saints getting the ball. And to top that off a Souths player was reported for a crusher yet I don't remember when it was during the game and if Saints got a penalty for it. Does anyone remember when?

Had Hubner elected to fight the charge and been found guilty at the judiciary he faced a three-game ban.

The 25-year-old will miss matches against Cronulla and Penrith before being eligible to return in Round 5.

Dragon Val Holmes and Cowboys pair Harrison Edwards and Reuben Cotter have been fined for Round 2 offences, as has Manly's Jazz Tevaga.

That should be called out if a decision of foul play is called during the game from the bunker and the MRC don't even act on it. That person in the bunker should be given a week or 2 off duties. It is clear they are looking at a particular team more closely than the other.

The tackle on Gutho was apparently in the 2 minute of the game. I don’t recall it & there was no penalty but it must’ve been pretty ordinary to get two weeks for it.

I wish there was a ref that I could honestly say that I thought that they were very good, but there aren't any. Maybe slo-mo replays have just made it clear how poor they are (or maybe they are just human? - nah, they are poor)
