Round 23 v Knights

We have a chance at 5th or 6th now , if we can win all 3 final games that is.

For and against is getting close to that of the Broncos , plus the Broncs have two tough matches vs Storm & Dogs.

The Roosters ran 4th in 1967. I think you mean 1966.

I don't think Newcastle came anywhere near our 1980 side for ineptness.
This is a "my Dad is harder than your Dad" sort of conversation about ineptness. Too funny :)

If we really focused on developing Hardaker and put 5 more kilos on him I think he could be a decent centre/wing option but he needs time and we don't really have it for him.

happy with the win! Refs put the whistle away in the 2nd half and we ran riot. Happy for Moylan. Glad to see him get some ball early and in space. He has tried the bat on play too much this year, but maybe that is because other teams pressure him and Newcastle didn't. Hopefully building for a deep finals run, but not getting ahead of ourselves!

Great to get out and put in another 40 point game, many were worried we would lose this one. Lots of upsets all weekend.

We played down to their level in the first half as we can often do, gave a penalty away basically every set but defense was on point.

Moylan hit some form and looked great... Bring on Tigers

It was good to see Waqa look for Dallin a bit more. He probably didn't have too on Dallins first try but made the pass anyway, he isn't a selfish player I think he just gets tunnel vision, good to see him hit some form before the finals, he can be a difference maker out there.

Peach sure can sniff out a try, he is still working out the defensive decision making but he has made a good go of it at centre.

I think Hardacker needs to put a little bit extra work in at training on his handling. He's copped a few difficult passes, but your job as a centre is to catch those passes first and then worry about beating your opposition number. I suspect that he is having a sneaky look at the defensive line and taking his eyes off the ball.

On a positive note, I have been very critical of Blake's handling in the past, but he did very well to take that pass from JFH to score that try (it was thrown down near his knees) and very unselfish of him to give the ball to DWZ to score when Blake could have literally fallen over the line and scored.

At the end of the first, really thought we were going to be in a grind all game - So glad when we came out firing in the 2nd - D was great and we forced a lot of errors - Granted the Knights are a bit of a rabble, but it was good to see - What really impressed me, was the fact we kept trying to score points until the very end - Foot on the throat and all that - Made me a happy Panther fan :)

When Hook dissects this game it will be handling errors that dominate discussions I think. Even in the second half we coughed up far too much pill. We did tackle quite well though, but the Knights didn't throw that much at us. They were extremely ragged in defence as the second half wore on.

Knights coach Nathan Brown was very generous in his assessment of our side in his post match interview. He thinks we're headed for a premiership win in the near future.

This Friday is basically our home final. A massive game against a desperate and dangerous side. I don't think losing Tedesco makes them any less dangerous. Brooks and maybe Farah will be back. This side carved us up not all that long ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few blokes like Blake were told early in the season to put the cue in the rack and concentrate on running hard, tackling hard and not making errors. In the last month or so our backs seem to be everywhere. Probably credit to Cartwright taking a backwards step and Moylan/Cleary's combination starting to fire and get them involved.

The match review committee continue to astonish charging Waqa Blake with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact for the incident involving Jake Mamo. What a joke they are. They are nearly as brain dead as commentator Gary Belcher and the way he carried on about the tackle at the time. Seriously Belcher has long standing Penrith bias issues which we are all well aware of.

I think they should be able to argue this one away - There was no intent or malice, and was helped by the opposition player - But as you say Kilkenny, the MRC are a joke, so who knows...

Pleads guilty doesn't miss a week, but that is not the point.

As someone posted elsewhere the tackle on TMM which put him out of the game for most of the season did not attract a charge, when it clearly should have.

After the grading of the infamous Marty Tapou incident for which he only received one week, particularly given his poor record, nothing the MRC does shock's me anymore. They are incompetent and that is not going to change unfortunately.

The lack of possession in the first half was self inflicted, some handling errors but mainly penalties. I don't think we are a good enough defensive team to be able to allow that amount of possession to a decent team and win. It was like against the Warriors.

We needed the defensive practice but the knights offered basically nothing. Besides that one back rower their forwards were junk. We controlled the ruck and had a set line the whole game. Who knows if that will help us improve.

Matagi had a great return. Akauola went backwards. It's a shame Leota was dropped for RCG, Leota might have offered something come finals time with these lead in games under his belt.

If Matagi plays at his best, his bending the line back combined with Grevsmuhl doing the same, Latu's ball playing and Merrin's high quantity high quality work we have a chance of matching the best teams in the middle. Even better if RCG isn't in the team and Akauola holds a place and plays like he has the past few weeks. On the back of that this attack is a chance to do anything, attack is a non-issue now with this spine, they could just use some blooding against better defense which hopefully the next two weeks will provide.

We rightfully had a tag of playing down or up to our opposition in the early rounds, that's obviously not the case anymore.

Not confident in Blake or DWZ still, and it's getting old.

I'd argue it, would hate to have waqa wiped out with carry over points from that

My view on it is that it would have been an excellent hit had it arrived on time, but as it was represented very sloppy work and didn't look good. A rap across the knuckles is called for so long as consistency is applied (which it rarely is).
