Royce had a decent length coaching stint. He should be used more
It is crazy to think, looking at those photos, that Alexander is only 53. He looks like he is 70 (albeit an agile 70 year old).
Beale out and Hiku into the starting side. That’s great news for us. Hopefully he still has nightmares of marking up against Kikau. He was a massive part of the reason why the Warriors lost last time we played them.
Do you happen to have last year's figures? Was he bought at $800k a year to be a tackling powerhouse? It feels a bit better making fun of Hiku for being a shit tackler given that Maloney, who has 46 MORE missed tackles than the second worst tackler in the comp this year, is out.
(1. Maloney: 144, 2. Ben Hunt: 98)

Jesus, that is bad.
I’d be interested to know if it accelerated when he’s was carying injuries.
I hope we can somehow convince him to retire from rep footy next year, but given he likes the coin we might struggle to do that.
Maloney is the only play we had when Moylan wanted out, I would’ve preferred to keep Matt but what are you going to do?
Maloney has come up with a lot of bad misses ie. the one on Don v Gold Coast or plenty against Canberra that almost and at times did lead to tries.
However, CK from NRL.com wrote a very interesting article on how a fair amount of JM's missed tackles are him putting hits on and stopping momentum of the attacker but technically not completing the tackle.

That was what I was getting at. He was bought in full knowledge of his issues. If his missed tackles were costing us heaps of games you'd have to say poor coaching but they didn't cost us all that many, just like at the Sharks.2017 figures from here https://www.theroar.com.au/2017/10/05/the-statistical-review-nrl-season-2017/
The side that missed the most tackles in 2017 was the Penrith Panthers with 859 at 33 a game.
The leading missed tacklers for the year are as follows:
• Apisai Koroisau – 103
• James Maloney – 101
• Ethan Lowe – 100
• Mitchell Moses – 90
• Matt Gillett – 87
So we had the worst defence in terms of missed tackles last season, so we thought it would be a good idea to buy the second worst tackler of that season and somehow make him even worse by 50%? Interesting tactic.
I mean, it's not the be all and end all, but I remember a few on here being happy that Moylan never got a real shot at 6 or that he got shunted out because apparently he couldn't tackle. Well.....

Before origin that applied but not so much recently due to injury. I hope he retires from rep footy next year and just gives Panthers 110%
