NRL Preview: Round 26 v Bulldogs
Wed 30th August, 03:00PM
A A

St George Illawarra Dragons v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs
ANZ Stadium, Olympic Park
Sunday, 4pm

Following a critical win over the Penrith Panthers last weekend, the finals equation is as simple as beating the Bulldogs for the Red V on Sunday afternoon.

Alas it's not a forgone conclusion considering the Bulldogs' tendency to lift against the Dragons.

The Dragons sit at ninth on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder and require a win over the Bulldogs – thanks to their superior for-and-against (+89) – to secure a finals berth.

The Bulldogs could also be potentially boosted by the return of Josh Reynolds (calf) though Chase Stanley has been added into the equation in Brett Morris's (ribs) place.

The Dragons have had a slight reshuffle too with Josh Dugan (disciplinary issues) set to return in the centres. Kurt Mann will start at halfback while Josh McCrone returns to the interchange.

The Dragons will also celebrate Members Appreciation Round against the Bulldogs. You can read more about the activities and initiatives throughout ANZ Stadium on Sunday afternoon here.

Teams –

Dragons: 1. Matt Dufty, 2. Nene Macdonald, 3. Josh Dugan, 4. Tim Lafai, 5. Jason Nightingale, 6. Gareth Widdop (c), 7. Kurt Mann, 8. Leeson Ah Mau, 9. Cameron McInnes, 10. Paul Vaughan, 11. Tyson Frizell, 12. Joel Thompson, 13. Jack de Belin. Interchange: 14. Tariq Sims, 15. Hame Sele, 16. Blake Lawrie, 17. Josh McCrone, 18. Will Matthews, 19. Kalifa Faifai Loa, 20. Taane Milne, 21. Luciano Leilua.

Bulldogs: 1. William Hopoate, 2. Chase Stanley, 3. Josh Morris, 4. Brenko Lee, 5. Marcelo Montoya, 6. Matt Frawley, 7. Moses Mbye, 8. Aiden Tolman, 9. Michael Lichaa, 10. James Graham (c), 11. Josh Jackson, 12. Adam Elliot, 13. David Klemmer. Interchange: 14. Sam Kasiano, 15. Raymond Faitala-Mariner, 16. Danny Fualalo, 17. Francis Tualau, 19. Rhyse Martin, 20. Josh Reynolds, 22. Andy Saunders, 23. Kerrod Holland.

Key Match-Up: Josh Dugan v Josh Morris – Dugan will have a point to prove against former Dragon Morris this weekend. While the Bulldogs veteran's try-scoring and try assist numbers are ahead of his centre counterpart, Dugan has proven more dangerous in other aspects considering he's recorded 50 more tackle breaks and five line breaks more than Morris.

The History: Played 33; Dragons 11, Bulldogs 22. The Bulldogs have won 10 of their past 11 meetings against the Dragons dating back to the beginning of the 2012 season. They last met in Round 14 where the Bulldogs prevailed 16-2 in a dour Monday afternoon affair.

Match Officials: Referee: Ashley Klein. Assistant Referee: Chris Sutton. Sideline Officials: Chris Butler and Belinda Sleeman.

Televised: Channel Nine – Live coverage from 3:30pm; Fox League – Live coverage from 3:30pm

Radio: ABC, 2GB and Triple M

Social: Ensure you are across the Dragons' social media platforms on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat.

Perhaps the most salient point of this review is the "key match up" between Dugan and Morris.

From memory, the last time the sides played earlier in the season, Morris gave Mann a real "bath".

For this reason only, Saints need Dugan to put in his best performance of the year, if it is to win on Sunday. Unfortunately, Morris usually 'rubs it in' against the Dragons, so hopefully, this game will be vastly different (for once).

Ridiculous we play this home game at ANZ - our record there is dismal of late - maybe 2 from 10 or so - and yet we are giving up a chance to play at a sold out packed kogarah or WIN were we would have 90% of that crowd right behind the boys

Usual smart move by our Board and CEO.

Well done again.

As I said earlier they would never have thought we would be playing to get into the semis and that it all comes down to the last game..
Nor did they think that we might possibly have been well established in the top 8 ( we really should have been ) and the last home game would be a great morale booster or the players and the fans and a rousing way to start a semi's campaign.
They obviously thought we would be in the also rans basket where it wouldn't matter.
Our record against the Dogs is alarmingly poor and we are almost as bad at ANZ, so some real genius' at our club when it comes to ensuring our club gets to mark out its territory.
Anyway get there early and piss on something before the Dogs cock their legs as usual.

Let's face it the bullcheats have the wood on us since Bennett left in 2011.

They have no pressure, the last game for Reynolds and Graham and playing our home game in their backyard.

Prediction: McJetski to say after the game that "finishing 9th was well above where most experts had us finishing this year. I'm disappointed we missed the 8 but we've played above everyone's expectation and looking forward to a tough pre-season."

To add to the cliches, McGregor can say, "next year I finally have the team I want." (Except he says that every year.)
For something different, maybe he could say for 2018 I will finally work out how to use the interchange

BMOZ is out as well which is good. Hate watching him especially wearing the stain of a jersey against us. After all he is the "BETTER MORRIS" but "NOT THE BETTER WINGER". KNIGHTY IS THE BETTER WINGER. That should be a sign up for this game. We have the Better winger.

The St George Illawarra Dragons' season is on the line this weekend during Members Appreciation Round against the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium.

Despite remaining outside of the top eight on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder, a finals berth will be sealed if the Dragons beat the Bulldogs.

On a day where the Red V will thank their loyal members, there are plenty of other great initiatives for those thinking of coming to the game:

· A capped ticket price of $25 for adults and $40 for families, with free entry for kids 12-and-under. Click here for tickets.

· Free return train travel to Olympic Park with direct services. Click here for transport information.

· All Dragons and Bulldogs members are entitled to free entry as part of their 2017 club memberships

· $3 pies and sausage rolls at ANZ Stadium until kick-off

· No reserved seating on the eastern side of ANZ Stadium, with the stadium cut in half for Dragons fans on one side and Bulldogs on the other. Be sure to arrive early to get the best seating close to halfway

The precinct will also be buzzing with loads of family fun activities:

· Visit our family fun activity zone where there will be a jumping castle, face painters, mini putt putt golf, a petting zoo, stilt walkers, roaming entertainers, and mascot appearances by Scorch and Happy Dragon. The family fun activity zone will be located between Aisles 114-127

· Be on the lookout for our roaming Mobsta Live photographers… get your photo taken and then visit the printing station to get a Dragons branded photo print out on the spot.

· We will be running a free rugby league kids clinic out on the external warm-up field outside Gate K – look for the signs.

· Purchase your ticket in the 50-50 Charity Raffle for your chance to take home 50 per cent of the overall funds raised. 50 per cent goes to a winner at the game and 50 per cent goes to the match day charity, the Cancer Council. Our last winner took home $3,370.

· The Senior Flames will be in the precinct with the Dragons Selfie Frame so be sure to say hi, take a selfie and share to social media using #redv

ON-FIELD ACTIVITY

· The Dragons Slingshot team will be shooting out some great merchandise items into the crowd in the lead up to the NRL fixture

· Live performance pre-match by the Benny Black Band

· Preview the game with key match ups, a final word from the coach and captain and final team lines ups as part of our Dragons TV pre-match show.

· Sing loud and proud as we welcome the Red V onto the field for the first half with our rendition of 'Oh When the Saints'.

Rail transport to and from Olympic Park will also be included with each ticket purchase or membership card. Plan your trip here.

Additional trains will run to Sydney Olympic Park from:

· Central at 14:30 – stopping at Redfern, Strathfield then Olympic Park, and;

· Sydenham at 14:30 – stopping all stations to Berala via Belmore, Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

I got lot of confidence against the panther last week and I Think the team did as well..The only change I would make is Leilua for Macrone to add a bit strike power. Also hope McGregor has a bit of confidence in Laurie and gives him more game time.dogs have the wood on the dragons but I'm confident we will beat the dogs.
