You really aren't watching if you can't see Nathan's defence has slipped from where he was. Every game I can see him doubting Tago.
Can you really not see it?
Never mind. I read the second sentence as Nath not trusting his father. This is a much less mental take.

Of course but we can only comment on what we see and just sitting quiet because Ivan is a goat coach is boring. Still don't see how tago specifically gets a pass over everyone else. Will he have some sort of mental collapse if he plays a week or two of reserve grade? Ivan himself has dropped plenty of people Turuva got it last season.
There's a million reasons why it might not be a good idea to drop Tago in the regular season, most of which we wouldn't be privy to. Ivan and the coaching staff are the ones with the data that would make an informed decision possible. We can speculate, sure. I'm speculating that there's a very good reason why Ivan didn't drop Tago last year and there will be this year if he makes the same decision. And not a "he's got a weird blind spot for him" style reason, rather the "it gives us a better chance of winning a 5th straight premiership" type.

I'm not saying don't comment (not my style), I'm just reacting to the fact it's kind of boring at this point. We went through all this last season and it culminated in Tago smashing it in a grand final. There doesn't seem to be even an acknowledgement of that. Just Ivan was wrong then, despite literally succeeding and he's wrong now despite the fact we can't see into the future.

At least a positive out of this is that there's genuinely good depth to be able to make these decisions. Jenkins has been good Newcastle really missed out there. Schneider I'll at least trust his defence and he should be able to play a bit of hooker if needed or maybe go to centre and just tackle everything that moves in case of injury.

I want to see Schneider at 6 with Nathan. It's something we haven't really had a look at properly.
Trent would also offer more than Cole, so we do have options

Sounds like he's going to keep backing Cole. Would be interesting but I'd only back Schneider to defend. He's not great at everything else.

We have options at 6, but the only genuinely good one is Talagi getting up to speed with Ivan's expectations. I have zero confidence in Schneider with ball in hand, Cole has quite a bit of learning to do on both sides of the ball and Toleau seems to be a 7. I'd love for Laurie to get a look in but his defense isn't considered up to scratch and I suspect he might be spending quite a bit of time at 1 this year anyway.

I'm a firm believer in dropping and promoting players based on performance as deserved. That's why the twgo thing and then the McLean thing is weird. It is an inconsistent application of it. Tago was borderline the worst defender in the comp for a long time. He came good when it mattered yes and the players and coaches knew this and it was admitted publicly.

That's my real issue why is one guy getting the benefit of the doubt when multiple other players aren't.

Edit: tago is one of the best centres in the game at his best in my opinion so no this isn't hate.
Tago might be a confidence player that woud be adversely affected by being dropped. As stated he improved through the season.I trust in the judgement of the training staff to select who to drop or promote and when. They are by far best placed to do so.

Of course they are I'm just a goose watching from home who gets overly passionate about this stuff. I did have high hopes for the McLean brothers hope I'm not a curse on these guys. My list ain't going well backing Staines and Egan.
