… and set up both of our tries beautifully!
What was the time & the score when he set up our 2nd try?
How many players did ScuMulla have on the field when he set up our 2nd try up?
How many tries did he set up when they had 11 on the field?

Not having a go at your post but trying to put some context around the things that Hunt does and when it happens.

Hynes has had 3 games for Cronulla and how would you estimate his impact on their side compared to Hunt's impact on ours?

Yep and our guy has had 5 years ..... Move him to 9 and he can still do what he is doing now ......

That's it.
Oh sure, they all nod and agree. But imo we don't pay the f**kers until they start playing as a team.
Starts with the coach.

The forwards work... the halves step up... the backs follow. It's not a complicated game.

Sorry Gareth for highlighting the last words of your post. I'm still pissed off about last Thursday night

That’s fine Willow , I don’t mind you quoting me , I am glad that I am not the only one whom can see the error of our ways .

IF I was coaching I would be telling my players that although the game is 80 minutes the team needs to
concentrate fully on error free footy in the first 40 minutes and also without giving away penalties and likewise in the 2nd stanza . Play the game realising that every minute of the 80 is vital , not the last 10 minutes .

The must not only know their tasks , but carry them out with the maximum efficiency as possible . Keep your line intact , put your bodies on the line to do so . Of course I shall never be coach and I am only stating the obvious , however as I have said on numerous occasions recently TEAMWORK is the key , the successful clubs have it , the also-rans of the competition don’t , some clubs don’t even know how to spell the word .

And the ‘gradings system’ remains open to come up with whatever. Nothing changes.

Ramien good head high but wait ;waved through grade one and free set of steak knifes, go Sharks the new golden children.

Sua of course grade 2 and no soup for you. Well well well our best back rower out for drum roll; the roosters game. Doesn’t the old adage hold true? The more things change the more it stays the same.
You mean out for the Parra game?

One of many things that pissed me off was turning the ball inside to a slow forward like Lawrie who never passes the ball
We're is our second phase play.
No excuses r3 other teams do it. .
Why the crap can't we?
They must not do it during the drills sessions at training. They must only do practise on bashing and barging. The ability to improvise and carry out second phase play would allow us to vary the way we attack. We don't have any variation just like Lawrie not passing the ball - easy to read once he gets the ball the opposition just tackle him knowing he isn't going to off load.

Where have our sweeping plays gone? We had plenty when Hornby was our half back and allowed the ball to be swept out quickly through a number of hands and then to Brett Morris who more or less scored most of the time at the end of the movement.

Do our coaches know how to do these things? Do our players know how to? Just catch the ball and run - great. Do this for 5 tackles and then kick - Wins games all of the time yeah like no way.

I wonder if Hook dissects the way we play and how in comparison the way other teams play.

Learn, learn train, train, practise, practise. Gee being a coach must be hard work.

As I said in a previous post Hunt uses Lawrie as a settler when he should already have the play organised. Hunt was never a half he was a running 5/8 and thats where he should have been played.

Norman cops heaps on this forum but his long kicking, gaining repeat sets, attacking kicks all leave Hunt for dead. I always thought Norman should have been half and Hunt should be 5/8.

I understand that Cronulla played well but if you allow a team a short ten and to move early of course the other team is going to fatigue, they are also going to find it hard to make metres and run plays as they dont have the time. This leads to errors and clunky play.

And all this talk about ill disciplined, they are no worse than any other team, ill discipline is our position is on the whim of the officials nothing about what the players are doing. Stop bagging them and blaming them for being targeted by crap officiating. When you do you sound like Hook in the press conference. This is the biggest issue I have with Hook, stop saying "if they're the rules then they're the rules" or "he needs to address his tackling technique". As a club man up and start calling out the bias for what it is.

What was the score when Sua got binned against Penrith what was the score this week both matches were even . The 2 Cronulla players got binned 1 in the 73rd min the other in i think in 78th min neither had to serve their full 10min Lets chill things would have been different if this was reversed and they lost a player at nil all

A few things about the Dragons are bothering me these days:

Why are we so off-side with the Refs and the NRL? It can't just be a case that everything evens out at the end of the season because for the Dragons it doesn't work that way.

Why can't the Dragons do a Raiders when we supposedly have speed and youth in the backline and depth and experience in our forward pack?

It is time to face the facts, we are poorly led and have been not just since Hunt became captain as it seems to me, no one is really in charge on the field who knows how to think on their feet.

I say time to let some of our youngsters learn their trade playing reserve grade. We have them signed up for a few years and they will be the better for it.

1. Moga or sign a fullback
6. Bird
7. Mbye
9. Hunt

8. F Molo
10. De Belin for now
11. Gosiewski
12. Su'A
13. Sims

And for goodness sake, Sulu and Bird to run straight not turn back towards the middle when they get the ball.

Line speed in defense is should be a high priority.
Putting pressure on the opposition kicker should go without saying.
Off-loading the ball on tackles 3, and 4 should become second nature.

Sloan, Amone, and Lawrie to reserve grade.
Sulu to run straight and set up his winger when possible.
Bird to run straight and set up his outside man when possible.
Moga to be solid at the back and do the hard yards coming out of our red zone.

.

The discussion was about Hunt and his input not Sua and his sin binning.

We have no 2nd phase play because we are such an ill-disciplined and error riddled side that Hook has had to treat the team like little children and tell them not to pass, off-load or throw the ball around but instead hold it tight and complete your sets. In the trials we threw the ball around, everyone was being really adventurous and having fun, off-loads, chip kicks, going wide early and scoring tries, exciting stuff. The kids especially were playing off the cuff and getting involved at every opportunity. All that's been cut back to run hard, tackle hard, complete your sets, boring, slow and predictable and we're looking very much the Bottom 4 side people keep saying we are. Indeed, we are 14th and have the worst defence in the league to add to our pathetic attack.
I don't know what the answer is but last week was the worst game we've played in a long time, the opposite of where I thought we'd be given our recruitment and new look spine. That last few minutes against 11 Sharkies was a major embarrassment, disgraceful. The recruits are injured, in trouble with the cops, in the sin bin or just not very good and the kids last week looked to have zero confidence and no say in what happens on the field - they've been sidelined and everything goes through Hunt. Our more established players seem to care more about themselves than the team e.g Jack Bird just wants to start fights with everyone, Lomax goes for glory plays and has no respect for the ball or his team mates ( let me tell you Zac Lomax will never play Origin ), Lawrie has two settings, Really Good and Bog Average, most weeks it's the latter. We have some good players, JDB, Kerr, Rava, Molo, who put in each week but that's not enough.
I don't have the answers and I'm not sure Hook does either.
Hunt to 9, Sullivan or Mbye into the halves, give the kids more freedom maybe, I don't know. Maybe get a game plan together and some plays, how about that.

To me, besides your other points kit is that there doesn't appear to be anyone in the side who has the ability to organise the players in both attack and defence and there is no x factor ball player who can dictate things. Norman was a player that was wrongly used and should have been our halfback but he wasn't much chop. Hunt cannot do everything and to me shouldn't be the captain as he isn't leadership material - he should be constantly talking to the team and barking orders and telling players off when needed.

The young ones, which we had high hopes for, still need a lot of time to mature by playing in reserves and gaining more confidence and ability and strengths. We were banking on them being our guns and as such, the recruiters overlooked the need to sign specialist fullback for several seasons while Sloan and Ramsey became better and unfortunately for Amone, he is just as bad if not worse than Norman and we need a better 5/8th.

I know it is only round 3 done and dusted and maybe a bit too soon to throw these criticisms at our team but there are signs that show many weaknesses and judging us against the other teams shows us faring not that good. We have just got to try and do things better even without those suspended/injured players and all the refereeing queries.

We need Bud Sullivan on the field asap as a second kicking option. Hunt is a predictable target on last tackle.

Agree with many on here that we are too predictable in attack.

Fitzgibbon did an excellent job in nullifying our attack.

One out running is not the answer. We need to play second phase footy.

Moga or Fegai to wing as we need more metres from our quarter of the field.

Ramsey or Sloan at 1 is a toss of a coin at the moment.

Sua’s sin bin did have a material impact on the game.

Regardless of this, too many players went missing in action.

Early days boys and girls, let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water.

Every team goes through stages where they're doing it tough. This is where your game manager steps up and changes the momentum of the game.

We have not had a real game manager for years and years, Widdop wasn't and Hunt isn't. We desperately need that player that understands how to maintain pressure on the opposition and take the pressure off his own team. Forget all the other stats one of our worst is the small number of restarts we manufacture on last tackle.

If you watched Jonathon Thurston play he would be both sides of the play the ball and would be looking to attack every play the ball except where he sensed a restart was needed when he would kick for the ingoal. He didn't waste many settles when he had a chance to attack and his attack was varied, dummy and run, short pass outside or inside, attacking kick, out the back or even a pass back across the ruck. Compare this to Hunt getting Lawrie to take soft settles when we are in a position to attack to give Hunt time to organise something.
