Round 4 v Storm

I have a bit of a concern about Hamish Stewart and how he's being used. I see him a tall, very athletic and skillful player (he took that catch and laid on the try in the one motion against Souths) who has a great future as an edge forward- in the mould of a Shaun Lane. The Dragons appear to be using him as a middle.
ball playing 13 is the word - dunno if he has the explosiveness for edge

I've been saying for a while.. that in an ideal world Hamish would be in NSW Cup, finding his best position, because he has been bouncing around between positions and Flegg/Cup this last 1-2yrs and yet to really lock in and 'get gud' at any of them.

Although he could play 2nd row (and maybe it will prove to be his best position), I think we have enough of those players about to emerge that they would prefer Hamish as a middle.. ideally a lock, but thats an important position, absolute best case maybe 2026... if indeed he makes it.

However watching the way he tackles, I am a lot more at ease now that he can provide purpose to 1st grade if he is needed off the bench from time to time.. but ideally if Sele and Klemmer are fit, we dont need him at all in 1sts.. those guys can still tackle, but will provide offensive impact also.

In that situation Rev it is a simple comparison of Ray vs Stewart. If that is the equation i would be putting in Latu :)

Sele though, will he ever play again -

THANKS HELEN !!!

There is a lot of similarities between the 2.. Ray isnt killing it.. but he is competent/hardened.. Stewart cant be playing 1st grade every week.. I think both will play plenty of footy this year regardless.

I think now the season is underway... Flanno can get a feel for whats not working.. then we will see what hes thinking.. i.e. Could Egan be used in the 2nd row to get Luciano back to an impact player again... I think thats 1 play he might consider if we dont get better fast.

But if we took Lawrie/Stewart out of that Souths game, and played Klemmer/Sele instead, thats getting closer to the mark.. if they wanted to swap Ray out from there.. maybe.. but im very conscious that we could easily see 2 props get wiped out in a weekend, and these fringe players will all be essential.

Don’t get all the love for Sele

He was ordinary before he left, ordinary while he was away and nothing special since he’s been back.

Much rather the big kids learning than a small barely effective prop doing the same thing as he has always done.
Kingsgrove Colts boy OT, gotta love that.
Had my first ever beer at the Grove Inn many years ago.

Had plenty of beers in The Grove Inn

In 1973/4 if you were out the front looking at the doors there was a lane on the right that went beside the pub up around to the RSL club

(Different to the arcade lane in Kingsgrove Rd)

Anyway there was a butcher shop there near the lane and Wally was the RECHTUB

He tried to teach me how to string sausages 2 Saturdays in a row then gave up on me but paid me to clear the window, scrape the block, sawdust the floor and then we’d sit and knock of a case of beer
that was placed in the cool room every Sat by the person running the bottle shop next door.

One Sat he took me to the Appin dogs, got pissed, lost my Sat cunning kick cash and slept in the car in 30+ temperature

So gave up on that as a dead loss and drank schooners in the pub in the cool much better idea.

If Melbourne Storm don’t score 60 points against our lazy very unfit team, then I’ve never watched a game of quality footy.
Storm will beat the panthers 40 plus tonight.
Some comments don't always age well! Melbourne only 4 up with 26 minutes to go. They will need to start scoring quickly if they are to get to 56!

Not that it means anything if you draw parallels with the Souths game - but it looks like the Storm will be without a number of key players next week. Meaney has a fractured jaw, Anderson is off with possible knee issue and Munster is on report for a hip-drop.

I might lose my money, but I'd wager that Munster gets off. One of the chosen ones. He was interviewed last night and he explained the tackle and blamed the wet conditions and the strength of Liam Martin. Is it just me but I don't remember players giving explanations to possible chargeable tackles prior to the MRC actually charging that player. The media doing the equivalent of "it's not his go".
