Injury update: expected return

Round 4:
Burns
Sullivan
Woods

Round 5:
McCullough

Round 6:
Fuimaono - from suspension
McGuire - from suspension

Round 11:
Feagai (Max)

Su'a played with a foot injury last Thursday night (had a pain killing injection to get through). A suspension is probably a blessing in disguise for him here.

After talking to my barber, the bloke at the IGA, the lady in Mitre 10, and Wayne Bennett (not that Wayne Bennett, a different one), I have calmed down somewhat. The consensus opinion was:
- St George have played two pretty good games so far, and only one bad one.
- They have been unlucky with sin bins which has affected two of the results.
- They played a wet weather game against Cronulla, whereas Cronulla played a dry weather game. So our tactics backfired.

I am looking at this game with more optimism as long as we don't get a Sutton for the ref.

Mate I don’t want to be a drag but I have to disagree here.
First game vs Warriors we were bad, Warriors were just worse.
Second game was most frustrating of all because we should have beaten the Panthers. They had an off day and played poorly. We completed at about 65% and made way too many errors, shoulda coulda woulda.
Third game finally they came up against a team in form and they exposed us.

Now I am not saying we are a shit team, we have great potential. But we playing very poor footy and have been since round 1.
Here’s hoping it turns around quickly, I can’t tolerate anything less than playing finals this year, it’s time.

Sometimes I think back to what made the 2010 team so good. It wasn't just the fact that we had the world's best coach at the time:
The brick wall defense worked so well.
Sowards long kicks to the corner and generally his kicking game turned the opposition around.
Speed to burn in attack.
A forward pack with a tough under-belly.

Bennett brought a winning formula with him and we dismantled it as soon as he left.

A lot of people have been hard on the rookies, but jeez, they haven’t had it easy. I think they went ok against the Warriors, but against top teams like the Sharks and Penriff they went missing (I’m sure many players would). I have faith that they’ll come good. Probably not against Parra yet, but I’ve seen enough in last year’s games to think they will be good players in the future.

…… he was part of the formula!

He wanted 5 years, we offered him 3.

I’m no genius, but after how well we went after 2009, I think the brain’s trust should have extended him immediately.

as opposed to Hook who has done f**k all and gets extended even before a game is played.

damn it’s hard to be a Saints supporter.

I know that Sullivan is yet to have a run this year but as soon as he is ready, I would like to see how his combination with Amone would go, that is if Amone is still at 6. Hunt in as hooker should be tested and keep Mbye as a specialist utility from the bench. Having Lomax at 1 might be ok to see how things go. Sloan and Ramsey will become better as they mature.

My take is that we need to do things with a lot more speed - pass the ball, play the ball, quick defence and most of all quick in attack. Everything done quickly and with precision - a lot to ask but hey, these things are part and parcel of a winning culture.

When we finally get all of our players available after suspensions/injuries (well I hope we don't have many more this year - wishful thinking), we should be much improved.

The reserves though need a lot of prodding to get their act right to put pressure on the firsts.
Not as comforted as you by the thought of Moose and Fui riding to our rescue but I do have hopes for Billy Burns and Sullivan. Agree with Para 2- Cronulla's backline movement of the ball with Kennedy chiming in is a thing of beauty- precise, accurate and at pace causing panic in the opposition. Many teams including the Dragons are unfortunately obsessed with block plays and clunky side to side movement that fools no one. Guile and creativity as demonstrated by the clever English backrowers (Malcolm Reilly was the best) have largely disappeared from the game.

It sure is. Puzzling thing. I thought that once we got Bennett we'd have him like Robinson with the Roosters and Bellamy with the Storm. Why not extend after the 2009 year to 5 years? Crazy - and yet Hook gets extended before 2002 started as you say R&W.

Maybe the club is looking at the bigger picture like they did with Mary.

1. Sloan
2. Feagai (Matt)
3. Suli
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa

6. Amone
7. Hunt

8. Lawrie
9. Mbye
10. Woods
11. Bird
12. Sims
13. de Belin

14. Sullivan
15. Molo
16. Burgess
17. Kerr*

18. Gosiewski*

*Could easily swap around Kerr/Gosiewski if required. Both could cover the middle or edge if required.
We need a team of big boppers this week to really take it to the Eels pack (and their team in general).
Sullivan to provide the smaller man impact off the bench.
Matt Feagai over Moga for mine (subjective though).

This club never fails to disappoint me.
