Round 5 v NQ

I agree this is not how the sport works. That’s why we need to change the parameters.

I don’t agree that is how the sport should work. I look at Royce S, Turvey and Mario F and don’t think that the life changing injuries they are facing is worth the cost of my entertainment.

There are circumstances where it can be accidental. Player falling into a tackle.
It should be judged on a case by case basis.
I agree with that Hooked. I would just have a very high bar for what is considered accidental. An attacker falling significantly is a clear example (albeit we often show a player falling a few inches and being collected on the mouth and scream accident). A player bouncing up off the ball should not (in my opinion) be classified as an accident; tackle lower.

I actually think there should be other rule interpretations amended at the same time to help. I would suggest a one-on-one tackle should always be considered dominant.

You can't use those examples in isolation alone though.

Those guys were piss heads, didn't have the same sport science and rules as the current game.

Like the shoulder charge, any contact with the head MUST be banned for safety reasons.

I prefer blaize at fullback as opposed to laurie. He has to be in the 17 somewhere surely.Cowboys have named a strong team,We could be 1 from 5 if we are not careful.

I also have concerns too, especially after last weeks game. Surely Blaize comes onto the bench to cover the backline.

But in saying that I'm not there during the week, seeing how they train.

It is impossible.

How do you ensure that every single person that takes the legs, is done at the correct time so the player isn't falling when the 2nd tackler comes in?

Are we playing in doors so weather isn't a part in it?

You can get rid of intentional shots, You can't get rid of accidents

Accidents happen all the time. Players slip, momentum causes a richochet and a high tackle, etc. Can't just ban them all together just to keep people happy. Should be a case by case assessment in my opinion.

Like with the shoulder charge, if you hit the head.....there will be punishment dished.

How many shoulder charges do we now see in the game.

I'm old enough to remember there was similar outcry when it was banned too.

Another stupid ban. Was a legitimate way for little blokes to hit big blokes. The game is lesser for its absence.

Then look forward to teams having to forfeit mid game due to no players on the field

Mate I refereed League for a long ass time, I've seen it.

When I first got pulled into the junior rep squad, I was required to go to an Under 15s carnival. And U15s still played under the 'Safe Play Code'. And by the letter of the law, all and any breaches of the Safe Play Code must be penalised. I had many arguments with the coaches about this - but when push came to shove, I did what I was told.

So I had 3 instances in a single carnival game (12min halves), where there was 'foul play' under the Safe Play Code in the lead up to tries.
1 was flinging the player to the groud by his jersey
1 was pushing a player over the sideline
1 was a late tackle

All 3 happened in the same play as tries were scored. All 3 my touch judges ran onto the field. Had they happened in general play, I could have just penalised the player - no real harm done.
But all 3 players had to be sin-binned, because it happened in a try scoring play - and you can't restart the game with a penalty after a try has been scored.

I had to be escorted from the field by security. Coaches, players, parents were all ropable.

I packed up my shit, and drove the 3 hours home to the Central West after one game. Told them to jam it.
I am amazed that in the biggest rugby league forum of them all, there are not whole threads made on the state of junior rugby league footy in the way it has been run. I have not coached junior rugby league for years now...but some of the changes to the sport at a junior level are just so unnecessary.

I was going to make one the other week, Totally forgot

To be fair the changes are only in u7's and below. As more and more are affected they will notice them.

Imagine not being able to tell relatives in another town that your child won a game of football for fear of the club getting a $1500 fine.

All because a small minority of parents are dicks about kids winning

Rugby league is not for everyone in terms of playing it. When you sign up for, you need to be prepared for the possible accidents that can come with playing it. You will never eliminate the possibility of getting hit on the head.

In saying that, we live in a litageous society. The game has an ongoing responsibility to make playing it as safe as possible.
While you will never get rid of accidents, I absolutely believe the game can do more to reduce it. Hits that directly land on the head without an attacker changing direction in a large way to move into it.....Im fine with a bin and suspension.
As a poster in this thread said earlier, we need to be careful as a game with this. Attackers may well deliberately move their head into a shot to get the penalty and bin.

I was 100% with you until your final paragraph. My challenge is we have legitimised accidents, and therefore the duty of care that a defender needs to show has been reduced. Even if significant changes were made (and let’s face it, very few people think that this crackdown will last the test of time) concussions will still happen in the game; you are right it is a tough sport that happens fast. But they will happen a lot less if people aimed at the midriff and not the chest.

As for people directly throwing their head at an opponents shoulder or fist to get a penalty. Do you really believe that? Really?

If the rest of the side is absolutely firing then Huth's 15mins doesn't hurt us too badly but at the moment f**k no, Especially with To'o out. Our props are actually going to have to work hard.

Yeah it's a lot of work to make up. I'm more worried a out the penalties than the metres though.
