Round 5 vs Souths

Souths are one of our bogey teams. Despite not have Surgess they can still worry us, particularly out wide. I’d expect they will try and move the ball around to avoid having to go through us(they’d struggle without Sam to do that) and also tire our forwards out. A night game, good home crowd and with form on our side I reckon a win by 12-16 with a few nervous moments as a bit of a reality check along the way.

Life's Good
I agree with you we sould win.
But we need to start well.
We have started slowly every game this year so far.
This will be our biggest test

No different to spending huge dollars on a monster forward pack and long term 6. 7 and 9 and gambling it all with a to-date failure of a coach...

I couldn't agree more, gambles can pay off and I hope like hell they do but its not good management. The thing that irks me the most is Dufty should have been played at fullback last year instead of Nighty and then the risk would have been considerably less.

Do it for Knighty round. No big Sam, Saints 12+.
Id like to think we could mate.....even though Burgess is out they have Reynolds back and Inglis and Gagai could cause us some big problems if we arnt right on our game.....on top of that its a 5 day turn around compared with their 7....thats a big advantage when you consider the pace that the game is played at these days...hopefull playing at home will help

Well Samuel needed a break from the game as regardless of whom you support , that elbow (?) made a lot of people grab their own throats , it really was that nasty .
If anything that will now spur them on to greater efforts so the Dragons simply cannot expect the bunnies to lie down as they won't . This match will go to the final whistle, however in the end I believe that it will be Hunt And Widdop to point where the try line is - Dragons by 4

Always tough against the Bunnies who seem to lift for these clashes.
No Slammin Sam but still a handy pack and some real quality backs. Gagai's one of my favourite players, very talented and usually dominates his opposite number. I think Sutton loves playing against us, he always puts in a good performance. They've got a great team the Bunnies but haven't reached their potential, hope they still haven't come 10:00pm Friday.

Dragons in a close one, by 7 points.

Yep agree Kit66, they have a bloody good outfit. Sam suspended will only mean he’ll be firing them up, especially his brother.
We’ll have to counter that and their squad and I ‘m pretty sure we will, comfortably in the end.

Dragons aim to build on unbeaten NRL start

Kicking on: Dragons captain Gareth Widdop hopes the team will extend their unbeaten run against South Sydney on Friday night. Picture: Adam McLean.

After winning their opening four games of the season, St George Illawarra Dragons players know the challenge now is to keep the momentum rolling each week.

While this season may mark the first time the joint venture has won four in a row to open a season, the Dragons have emerged as March and April specialists in recent years.

Fast starts in three of the last four yearshave been followed by painful collapses, with last season’s round 26 heartbreak particularly noteworthy.

Dragons players are aware of their side’s penchant for hot starts and meek finishes, but hooker Cameron McInnes said the players will keep their eyes focused on each upcoming game.

“People say we’re March or April specialists, do they want us to lose some games at the start, would that be better?” McInnes said. “You want to win a game every week and I get that last year we simmered off towards the end and we started well and didn’t finish well, but it’s not like we planned to do that.

“I think if you ask every team are they planning to win their first four, I bet you they are, we’ve been able to do it. Now, the challenge is to keep it going. But with the mentality we have and taking each game at a time and not being complacent, then we’re not going to ever go out aiming to lose a game.”

Captain Gareth Widdop said the team has learnt from past mistakes and is confident the Dragons will continue on the right trajectory this weekend.

“It’s a long season,” Widdop said. “There’s no doubt about that. I’d like to think we’ve done a lot of hard work in the preseason and learnt from last year, or the last few years, where we’ve started really well and fizzled off.

“With the experience from last year that we went through and the players we’ve added to the team, we’re definitely confident we can keep the ball rolling”

This Friday the Dragons face a Rabbitohs side riding high after last weekend’s Good Friday victory over the Bulldogs and while South Sydney will miss the suspended Sam Burgess, McInnes said his team will have to play for the full 80 minutes to get the two points.

“For us, the focus this year is throwing the form guide out,” he said. “There were a certain few games over the weekend where teams won that you wouldn’t have thought would, you just can’t pick it.

“If you want to go into a game thinking ‘we’ve won four, they’ve only won two’, then you’re going to be behind the eight-ball, they’ll come out firing and you’ll find yourself down.

“In the NRL, if you’re going into a game thinking it’s going to be an easy game, then you’re kidding yourself and you’re probably not going to win.”

Nightingale's 250th
NRL.com takes a look back at the career of Jason Nightingale ahead of his 250th game

https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/04/04/nightingales-250th/

Good on you Jason.
I have had the privilege of having a bit to do with Nighty over the years.
He is a great guy and a legend.
People who spend there time bagging him.
Do not know his full value to the team and the club.
He doesn't pick himself in the team.
Hope the boys can have a big win for Jason.
I will never forget when Jason helped my little kids team out by spending time with them, and did it without any fuss.

Club legend.
Will never forget how he stuck it out when the Sailor decarcle happened, he could have left and walked into first grade at any other club, but he didn’t.

He may be down on form at the moment but never underestimate his ability t bounce back.
