Thirsty Panther

Just got home from the game.
This is the first Panthers game I've gotten to in 12 months ( I'm not counting a certain Grand Final that we didn't play well in) and it was fantastic.
Crowd was going off after the 91 team parade. Good to see the old players again. I had trouble identifying some of them there was lots of grey hair.
Loved doing the Viking clap every time we scored to give to the Raider supporters.
Good win and a great start to the season and we still have lots of improvement left in us.

Didn't play that well in a few moment but what Ivan won't say is when we really need to defend we are f**king insane. The team just switches on when it matters. Now I like Critter but if Edwards plays theu don't score a point

Maybe but it wasn’t just critta making dumb mistakes, everyone had a go. Fish, Leota, Staines, momo and critta all unforced errors in the few sets before their two tries.

Re Ivan, he’s got a young side there like the fox guys said after his conference he’s just trying to keep them grounded and he wasn’t wrong, we did plenty of silly things. But yeah anyone watching us I think can see this side can turn it on to a level most teams can’t match for large periods of the game. Such a pleasure to support atm.

He is trying to keep attitude in check but when we focus we are very good

No he was off at the end.

Looking at playing times. Only Leota was the strange one

Leota must have been injured - nothing else can explain a starting 20 then off for the rest of the game.

Capewell was subbed with around 10-15 to go - replaced by Yeo. However he was also extremely gassed. He was out on his feet 10-15 minutes into the 2nd half.

Kikau and Yeo had short stints off then came on. Must be a niggle because was no HIA and Kikau would of just stayed off if Leota was fine

I think one thing this side can do that very few can these days is reverse momentum. They seem to flip a switch when needed and suddenly we’ve marched 70m down set and put in a perfect kick and have the foot on the throat.

We were obviously uncharacteristically sloppy tonight but wow was our ball movement something else. We really look to be putting together that fluency in attack we’ve lacked for a long time and half our bloody spine is out.

Stoked to see Martin get going. He can definitely make it as a very good prop.

I am kind of miffed about May though. Struggling to see how he keeps Burton out of the side once Edwards is back.

Him coming on completely changed the momentum from them to us. He was dynamite coming off the bench. He was just bumping straight through multiple tackles with extremely fast carries. Has unbelievable balance for a forward, not only does he stay upright taking hits - he barely loses momentum.

A break out game for him this year as in his other games he was pretty quiet/ordinary.

Staines also made 2 errors but to move him likely means no Burton in the side

Aside from possibly Leota injured there won't be changes mainly because we defended the errors well

Crichton isn’t a fullback. He can’t read the play to position himself and can’t read a ball off the boot. He should be moved, but so should have Whare long before he was, so Ivan has form with letting players prove over and over again they’re not a fullback.

If we were to be injury free and brutally honest Crichton wouldn’t make our 17.
