Round 6 v Redcliffe

The whole narrative around this season to date is delusional. We are where we are because we haven’t been good enough. The whole notion we somehow will flick a switch and all will be fine and dandy is ridiculous frankly. Our best 17, is no longer the best 17, we need to be honest with ourselves and accept it. No one wants to accept reality but the fact is we need to go into a rebuild phase and build for reinventing ourselves for 2027 and beyond.
We have Cleary, Yeo, Martin, To’o, Leota and Dyl. I would put Kenny just under that level. I don’t agree that it is delusional to think that a team with those 7 players, who have made the last 5 GFs, will improve performances over the coming week and even challenge for the title.

Fan forums work best when people are free to express there opinions in a constructive and objective manner.

In my opinion, a lot of the viewpoints or opinions put forward are too often agenda driven and not consistent with fostering genuine debate.

The non stop criticism directed towards certain players is relentless with the most vocal not offering potential solutions instead just comfortable in posting ad nausea about how bad a player is.

It doesn’t add anything to this fan forum to hear or read for the thousandth time from Chins that Isaac Tago is dogshit. I might share the same opinion, but I don’t feel the need to ram my opinion down the throats of our hurting fan base by making a thousand like or similar posts. It serves no purpose. Put forward solutions, opinions on alternatives, other options rather than just subjecting fans who are hurting right now to the barrage of negativity.

You'd have to tell us what the agenda is also this is ignoring that I said maybe a week being replaced by Kapoa would be worth something since tago is probably the best centre in the game when in form but hasn't been as good as he could be since his pec injury. I dare anyone to say this is unreasonable.

Also I like Cole and think his criticism is overblown but am also keen to how blaize goes with cleary I do also believe Cole is keeping the 6 warm for him.

That is how I see it, yes we lost players and very good players but the side on paper is still top 4 standard.

The side on the field.... in this form loses to the Matthew Elliott coached teams or the 2001 spoon teams.

There lies the frustration with us fans

The problem is simple. You have lost your nuts. You would start your set with

Edwards,Too,Turuva. That was good for 30-40mtrs. All out or gone.
Then take away Luais flair. J Cole offers basically nothing in attack.
In defense JFH would set the line speed. He lead the pack and when he'd come off their was a huge drop off in intensity. Now your defense is playing at the low level the whole game rather then a 25min hole whilst JFH was off.
You can't fix your defense to what it was. You don't have the men anymore. But you can improve it. Maybe get it down to the 18 -20 points conceeded a game would be about best I can see.
Atleast that means 21 points will win you games. My criticism of Penrith would be playing to safe. When your defense was rocking teams you could afford to. I think now it's time to play a little more expansive. Not waiting untill your down and desperate before you throw it around. Teams are coming for you and moving the ball.

Moving Tago to 2nd row if worked ( I'd have Garner as the other or Sorrenson) But it means Papali'i goes to the middle. It's where he is best. He is to slow in defense at edge.
It also may mean Martin could spend perhaps 15mins in the middle. Great player and strong charges but doesn't get enough ball in hand at edge.
Eisenhuth and J.Cole aren't going to help you going forward.

Fun thread and have enjoyed reading.

I swear though people don't read posts properly, they see a few words and the red mist descends.

Luke and Chins is a love story for the ages. I'd love to be a fly on the wall if they met in real life. So steamy...

On Chins & I am Back re Tago. Both waxed lyrical about him when he first hit the NRL. I also recall Chins defending him hard re the covid jab, not so much because the jab is bad, but his right to decide what goes in his body. So he clearly doesn't hate the guy. Iamback provides reasons for his opinions on everything pretty much always, so agree with them or not it aint blind hatred.

I think Tago's issues are between the ears. He hasn't been the same since the pec injury, he did show in last years finals he still has it, we just dont get to see it anywhere near often enough. Could be a case of second guessing himself and getting found out, then he loses confidence and the issue gets worse. A spell in cup could be exactly what he needs to get confidence back. Casey and Alamoti are both capable centers, To'o when fit on one wing is a given, and then Jenkins on the other and Kapoa to come in for injury as a reward for solid cup form.

I've seen enough the last 4 weeks to be confident there is still a good footy team there, even with the defensive issues, discipline and basic errors have cost us and just with that sorted we are 3 and 2 or better.

Hopefully Blaize comes in and offers a bit of spark and holds his own in defence. If he can hold the 6 jersey then Cole to 14 when he is back. Defence will be a work in progress, but we know a system that works, just need to get them all buying back in.

I know it sounds selfish but I'm hopeful no Penrith players get picked this year.

We can be certain of a few:

Cleary
Yeo
Martin

Lindsay Smith being in the Australian squad has put him in the spotlight. Daley might just go on Meninga's call and pick him.

Edwards hasn't strung enough games together yet. And I have a feeling Tedesco is a Daley favourite.

And this might sound wild but I'm not convinced Daley will pick To'o.

Worst case scenario is 5-6 players out. It's going to hurt quite a bit. These games we are dropping now are going to be felt way more by the end of May.

And keep in mind one of those games (Warriors) is overseas 3 days after Origin II. We'd be absolutely mad to have anyone back up for that one.

I think I remember you singing Cole’s praises a few weeks back, now he is no good?

Daley should pick the same side that won 3rd SOO only fair I think. Except Turbo to replace Dyl because Panthers will bring Dyl back too quick and he get hurt again. Yeo to replace Murray with a Canberra Backrower on the bench. Lastly there will be a coin flip to determine which center is replaced by Latrell.
