Well fitness and commitment has certainly improved this year – last year some players (not all – Parker, McCullough and some others give 100% every game) were stuffed as well as thinking about something else other than the job in hand after the first 40 minutes. This year we don’t fall apart until half way through the second half.
Our defence has improved out of sight. This year for instance we have not let in many easy tries at all, well not until after 60 minutes.
Things that have not improved this year include putting the wrong people in the wrong jobs.
1, Barba who is either carrying an injury or has a huge problem worrying that he is going to hurt his ankle/achilles (watch him limp towards the end of every game) is at this point in time not up to doing the job. Give Hoffman a go – we might just retain a good player instead of pissing another one off so they leave to join another club or code (as a club we are experts at that).
2, Why oh why would you put one of the best players in the NRL and arguably our best player under so much pressure – out of position in the front row while trying to keep an eye on HIS team and expect him to kick goals. Put him back where he belongs and can be out there where he belongs for the full 80 minutes.
3, We do not need any more fullbacks – this game plan of buying them all is not going to work – the other clubs have plenty of others waiting in the wings.
4, We need a five-eighth – Hoffman’s heart is not at five-eighth. Corey Norman’s heart was, but not for us because - see above). give Barba a go, cancel Milford and sign up a five-eighth.
5, We need some major overhaul of our front row forwards – we will not make the top 4 with the current setup.
6, Why do we use 16 players when everyone else uses 17 – that has to put us at a disadvantage, which brings me to my last observation
7, We need a new coach – I had great expectations last year and we all know how well that turned out. This year looked like there was going to be a major improvement but after this last couple of weeks……… Give Walters ago and make Bennett an offer he just can’t refuse
