its hard seeing Garrick and Saab develop into high quality backs for Manly (and probably NSW soon) that we had in our ranks but lost both to some really really poor judgement calls a little while back. how did we f**k that one up? Wishart could be added to this list, and AFB.
I’d take our backline over Manlys.
Let’s be honest, Turbo never plays so Gutho over him. Garrick is a poor man’s Valentine Holmes. Saab can’t defend to save his life. He’s literally just a fast runner. Who else they got?
Koula , Talau, Faulalo? Who even are they?
I’ll take our blokes.

You can put a team together with players we let go and didn't even give them a go ........

It's not always the club's fault. I don't remember why Garrick left, but I do remember why Saab left- he whinged and sobbed about how far he had to travel to get to training in the Gong so the club released him. He then signed with Manly and had to travel just as far, or further, to get to Brookvale! I've got no respect for him at all.

The past is the past. Can’t be changed now. We just stay angry about it. Most of the time rightfully so.
The important part is not letting the current crop of good youngsters coming through go. Difference is this time we have the right coach in place. So far he seems to be getting most of the tough decisions on the juniors right. He’s already saying there will be more debuts to come this season. We might lose a few who can’t crack first grade but I think Flanno knows which ones are the real keepers.
I’m always amused at the people crying over Saab. 1. He didn’t want to be here. 2. Much easier to look good in a competitive Manly team the last few years than a woeful Dragons team. How would he looked on the end of the 2022- 2024 backlines?. My guess is very average. Also has a heart the size of a pea.

Good summary of the Saab situation. Saab is tall and fast, but that's it for his attributes. Anyway, as you said @since77 , we move on. I hope the Dragons thump Manly this weekend!

So it wasn’t the travel at all….so why couldn’t we look after and hold onto an obvious talent? We fought for Rava and Sloan instead. A winger with serious speed is a rarity and each year that passes this Saab guy is getting better. He was our junior. Garrick is another, he is no poor man’s Val Holmes, his goal kicking itself is more reliable for a start. We do not look after juniors like we used to - you know, back in the days when we used to win premierships.

the support of Egan, Couchman and Stewart is a positive direction and we are getting some rewards, but they wouldn’t likely have got a chance here if some of the off season signings had of come off.

I have no inside knowledge, but based on the speed at which Saab signed with Manly, there was probably a done deal behind the scenes to get Saab to agitate for a release and "distance" was the best excuse he could come up with. My conjecture may be right or it may be wrong, but, who cares? It's a done deal and happened years ago, so move on.

For mine Saab is close to the bottom of the list of talented players we have lost.

Garrick is up there but Saab is not...

Got to learn from mistakes else you’re going nowhere, I just hope they’re nurturing the talented juniors now and keeping them close. Flanagan is giving them a fair go now at least.
