Round 7 vs Roosters

You make your own luck but some very close calls and the game is completely different.
If the ref sees the shepherd that sends tedesco down field.
If aitken doesn't throw that pass forward (lomax was too flat)
And if hunt grabs cordner a little later then we are talking a different game.
As it was those things didn't pan out for us.

Not to defend rawalava, but he does return the ball strongly. With Pereira also. Inexcusable to go out. But with Dufty a small fullback, we need wingers that can take some tough first carries. And whilst they are unfortunately good for a dropped ball per game, they do carry it back strongly.

We simply ran out of puff that's why in the last ten to fifteen we simply couldn't pull the trigger.

Again our forwards did a great job and gave us plenty of opportunities which our halves and backs blew.
Periera and Lafai are OK but the others, good grief, can't even get the basics right. How slow was Aitken to react to that loose ball on the ground with 5 minutes to go and Rava not coming infield away from the sideline or Dufty - you finally catch a ball then forget to hold onto it. Norman too putting in useless kicks and Hunt seemingly no good under pressure.
Was it the short turnaround or the taxing amount of defence in the first half ?
Was there a game plan ? Didn't look like it.
The forwards were courageous, great effort from the young blokes Host, Leilua and Lawrie, well done boys. Latimore was soft, no leg drive or urgency, just walk into the defence, comes on when we desperately need fresh legs and does nothing.
Refs were shit as usual, you can't escort someone off the ball but you can just barge into someone trying to catch the ball as long as you put an arm in the air to make it look legit.

I have to finally agree that my man Lats needs to go
Rava is not first grade material, needs to be dropped
The bombs Hunt put up were dismal today.
Proud of our second half and we should draw strength by the performance in the second half
The try by Duffy has to be the try of the year.

Seriously OT - you're making excuses for the Roosters. Why? Why make excuses for the other team? It's always about the other team not playing well, or some distraction or some other reason we win or lose. Never about anything we do.

Yes we played poorly in the first half, and didn't execute well in the second. But we were the better team in the second half. Not sugar coating at all, just acknowledging that the team, up against the best team in world, made them work for that win. In my eyes, we've got work to do, but it also told me we aren't doing too badly at the moment.
You sure can misinterpret a post and put your own spin on it.
I am not making any excuses for the Roosters what so ever.
I am merely pointing out what will happen as evidenced by some of the post match interviews.
The Roosters will go away and not be happy with their win and will get to work on sorting out the glitches in their team and improve as a result of it.
We will run around saying how well we did and that it was an acceptable loss, how well we did in the 2nd half bla bla bla and in the end we will fix SFA.
You acknowledge how we played poorly in the 1st half and see some light as a result of the 2nd half where I see a piss poor 1st half which we would always struggle to recover from and a coach that couldn't see a way to win the the game in the 2nd half when the opposition started to falter.
Please enough of quoting coach with "they are the best team in the world" stuff. That is immediately putting an alibi in front of a performance by us that reeked of something a good coach could have won.
This bum will always offer up some reason as to what happened and tell you we have to improve it or learn from it and the difference between us and them is they will and we won't as he is always telling us that after every loss.

There is no doubt that Hunt's injury really threw us (god he was so close to scoring!), but Mary really seems poor at managing the bench. Luc was needed on the field for more minutes and Graham was virtually running on empty from when Mary put him back on the field. We are one quality forward down at the moment. Another Simms today certainly would have helped.

Had Sims played instead of Lats, we may have won the game. We were very close to breaking them this arvo.

Yes we only had 47% of the ball today and we were on the wrong end of the penalty count and we saw two questionable decisions take tries from us and yes our second half was stirring BUT when it is all said and done we beat ourselves. We were coming over the top of them but then imploded. Yes we can talk about Dufty losing the ball but in that last 20 minutes Hunt dropped the ball twice Rava and his wing partner managed to turn a beautiful break into a disaster, Vaughan went infield, not towards his support, tackled himself and ended up giving the ball back to the Roosters. Euan simply wasn't hungry enough to grab a loose ball that would have given us a repeat set in their 20 and Graham threw two passes to no one and got in the way on at least one occasion. We had them but we let it slip.

Deep breath

We were staved of possession in the the first half
30/70
Horrendous decisions against us
We were without our captain , jdb , Korbin
Playing the 2018 premiers

However we within one or two plays from winning .

Well done dragons

I wasn’t disappointed with the way we played today. We were a bit unlucky in the 1st half starting with a charge down and repeat set on the first set. But our defence was solid and we hung in there. We had chances to win that game in the 2nd half but we struggled with the final pass. The loss of Hunt was the turning point. Great effort and some really promising performances from some of the young blokes in particular.

Can’t argue with any of that but just remember we played the Premiers and the form team of the competition and we damn well could have beaten them. We have plenty of improvement left in us and it’s still early in the season. Some of our young blokes really stood up today. We’re doing ok.

OK - well to me, the point you made about them going back to work on mechanics hinted at them not playing at peak performance. And that looked like an excuse to me. Sorry if I misinterpreted that.

And I didn't quote the coach at all about the best team in the world. I didn't even know he said that (did he?). I'm just stating a fact. They're the premiers and the world cup holders, they are the benchmark and the team to beat this year. Do you not agree with that? I'm comparing our performance against that team. I'm not offering up excuses at all. I'm saying that given that status that they hold at this point in the season, we did end up giving them a run for their money. They're the benchmark and I'm saying given how we played today, we can beat them. Going in, I thought they were streets ahead, but today showed they aren't.

And I'm not sure how the coach didn't see a way to win. We had every opportunity to win. We didn't execute - and there are things to work on, I agree.

And I'm not sure why you get so hung up by what Mary says in his post match interviews. They mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. If you don't like what he says, don't watch them.
