You should have watched, it was our best portion of the game, we threw the game plan out the window and went wide - made line breaks, scored a try, forced a bunch of line drop outs - madness.

Extremely disappointing game. Wrong game plan, wrong time to make big changes and any time's the wrong time to make Norman play half back, he was totally lost, totally ineffective. NFI.
We didn't play any footy until the last 10 - 15 minutes, just one out runs by the forwards over over ad infinitum and the " belt them into submission " ploy was obviously not working almost from the start.
The only good thing was our new fella Billy Burns, he's about a foot taller and 10 kgs heavier than I thought, tackling machine. Didn't make many metres but will be better for the run.
I'll just put that game behind us and hope we resume normal programming next week, We lost an away game to a better side, bad luck, move on.

The new use of the bunker after tries are awarded is about the most f*cked up thing to happen to rugby league in a 100 years. Bird didn't knock on, no separation and the attacking team is supposed to get benefit of the doubt anyway. F*cked up, seriously.

The commentators Media Bukkake for Sam Walker was embarrassing, get that man a raincoat. OMG he's a magician, who knew you could throw long passes OMG like twice OMG, next Immortal !
I thought except for his brain explosion in the second tackle of the game Fui when on field showed something in attack and defence more than most in our side today anyway

Was getting annoyed. Lose, that's fine but by 24 points, that's disheartening...but then I remembered a win today would have been more false hope.

I'm sorry but we have lost recently a truckload of $$$ worth of players recently. We've got molo, bird, McCullogh, McGuire, Alvaro which is all good but surely we can pull out 2 or 3 big signings and start to field a team that actually can compete for the trophy.

Otherwise it's just going to be a rollercoaster like we've experienced so far this year and, dare I say it, under Mary and price.

We've got a coach now let's show some intent in the recruitment department. There's loads of talent available.
We can’t go out yet with big recruitment
recruitment thus far is all about getting us back in balance getting half decent players on lot cheaper money and building depth
it’s gonna take a year or two before we can start aiming for the big names combined with getting some depth back into the place and keeping the ones with an eye on the future
Never a quick fix
Disappointing day in defence and attack but we are going to have a few more of these on the road back
We just gotta keep hoping that they just become fewer and far in between
Positive signs are there in between all the smoke haze everyone sees after a bad loss

As the dust begins to settle on a very disappointing game of footy but otherwise a wonderful Anzac day with many a schooner with lots of great mates and wonderful service men and women my takeaways for today are
  1. The Chooks are a class side and capable of making all but a couple of sides look very ordinary very easily so we need to take that into account when assessing our team.
  2. Far too many people got far too excited after 6 rounds because we had posted 4 straight wins and were thinking our 2 losses were winnable. Too many fans fantasising (a bit of a problem in this place) that we were possibly a top 4 side with some sort of credentials to be at least top 6 and as soon as the shit hits the fan a little bit they start whinging and whining. Blame yourselves for being unrealistic.
  3. Today our coach and team got it all wrong and we suffered because of it and that can happen to the best of sides let alone middle runners like ourselves. Let's not start hanging the coaches on the back of 4 and 3.
  4. We played a very good team and played very poorly and well below what we have been delivering thus far and that's all there is to it and FFS that can happen for no apparent good reason. So everyone needs to man up and look forward towards next week and get our enthusiasm back both on and off the field.
  5. If our best attacking assets play below par / poorly on a particular day we are a very ordinary grinding outfit and our roster is actually testimony to that. We are never going to regularly dominate up front so we need everything in the backs to go to plan and run like clockwork so we need to get our best halves combination on the paddock and that doesn't include Norman.
  6. Today Sims was very good and a few others tries really hard but overall it was quite underwhelming and we will actually know over the next 2 or 3 weeks whether it was just because we played a heavyweight contender for the title or whether we have played our best games and have nothing left to bring to the table.
The Roosters played poorly for the first 30 minutes, they had several errors and were off, then they lost Tedesco - unfortunately we were a shadow of where we were 2 weeks ago and failed to take advantage, indeed we looked inept. Then they came good...we were gapped.

Make no mistake, we were done in the forwards. Out muscled no go forward. The backs suffered accordingly. Lomax was made to look amateurish by Josh Morris and did not have a good game by his standards. The forwards did fire a few salvos early on but quickly faded. When the rorters were down to 12 men we made no impression.

Fowards were nowhere to be seen ..... IMO not playing Clune was a mistake also ......

Agree, we need to keep continuing to build this pack and still some big question marks over some players to have impact on a weekly basis. McGuire played ok, but he’s not our saviour. Need at least two hard hitting intimidating forwards imo.

The backs didn't see any ball until late in the game when Clune was given more ball and went wide to link with Dufty - which should have been happening all game - the Roosters are vulnerable out wide.
Keep Clune at halfback and bird in the centres.
No need to bring in Peiera even though I can understand the logic.
Ramsey defended really well again today including that ankle tap save on Hutchinson - but he's not a centre.
If we are objective, we were outgunned by a better team today.
I don't think we lost because we did anything particularly wrong although 2 tries while down to 12 men was the worst possible outcome.
Then when it was our turn, we still couldn't take advantage.
Let's hope the Tigers continue their rare streak of form next week.

Molo fits the Bill, JDB could be back that is two. Realistically we have to live with the expectation that a top 8 finish is an outstanding finish for this squad. We were wooden spoon contenders last year. A few people were getting excited because we were in the top 4 for a week or two but we just have to knock off the more mediocre teams with the odd win against the top 4 sides and hope we get in the 8. Next season we can start to think about having a crack at the GF. In saying that if we scrape in the 8 anything can happen, teams can have badly timed injuries etc.

Yes we lost to a better team. But we made it easy for them today with that line up, brain explosions play and they just weren’t up for it for some reason.

Agree, feel like a couple of wins and there’s an expectation from fans that this side is up there with the comp’s heavy weights. The Fui forced offload and the JP knock on showed our lack of composure early in the game. Ramsey’s try last week; this week’s Bird no try, and JP send off combined with the lack of line speed and aggression are all factors needed to go our way for us to beat a side like the Roosters and it wasn’t there yesterday from the get go imo. We’ll get better.

Having to listen to Cooper Gronk was pretty sickening also. It would have been very messy in the commentators box.

I think the question, “”Are we the real deal?” was answered yesterday. We simply lack quality depth. Hook puts Clune on the bench probably just as much for concerns over Norman’s shoulder and Norman’s defence, but he doesn’t see Clune worthy of a start for 60 minutes while a disaster unfolds in front of him. We have forwards out but Ford has disappeared so Hook, at this stage anyway, does not see him as part of the answer. Kerr has been poor the last few games, he drops so much ball! And Alvaro plays with heart but looked slow, very slow yesterday. As for Lawrie he was certainly not half the player he was against Parramatta. Ramsey tried but lacked impact and gets rag dolled. Overall a disappointing day that started so well.....Bird’s try was a try. Overall we have far more troubles than just Dufty.

While I find the constant worshipping of certain players ( Latrell, Ponga, Radley, Walker etc ) by the commentators sickening, I wish we had that young guy yesterday. He will become very very good. Imagine him with Keary next year? God I better get the vomit bags ready.
He’s a proper halfback that plays what he sees is zippy and a quick thinker. We have Sullivan who is similar. I feel Walker will be better but on his day Sullivan will tear teams apart. Hopefully the new rules start to favour smaller faster players.
