As a comparison he could certainly do the equal of what Moses Leota currently gives us of the bench if given the opportunity. I’m not knocking Moses simply saying I think Kaide Ellis is at the very least equal in ability if given the chance.

I think Ellis would provide even more than Leota, if given an extended run in first grade. Leota doesn't have the motor to be able to play long minutes, so he needs to be an impact player off the bench. The problem is, he adds very little impact when he does come on, either in defence or attack.

So he is an impact player that provides no impact

The more players he brings in from outside, the more of our gun Flegg side we lose.

you need guys for the 2 years or so til they are upto it.

For example:

Staines
McGrady
Johns
Crichton
Too
Laurie
Hand

Is a pretty handy NSW Cup side but would be skinny if needed for NRL. So need a few guys until these guys are upto it.

I thought the Hetherington stuff was common knowledge. Not much in it but still not a good thing internally

We don’t bring in enough outside talent, we shouldn’t be scared of losing some juniors.

The idea of Gould’s to move to a primarily juniors based team was flawed, it’s not the 1980’s anymore. There’s easier access to talent from across Australia, you can’t afford to only be looking inward.

Even short term. Nothing wrong with getting guys for a season or 2 if a team is part paying freight

I disagree and he did say and "add quality players from outside where there are gaps". We can't afford to build our team using too many external players. We don't have the money, reputation, lifestyle or coaching legend to attract the best outside talent. What you are proposing is what we have done previously and that yielded the mediocrity we have endured for 40 years. Let's at least try building a team Bronco's style for more than a few years and see what that will yield over time before we throw the baby out with the bathwater.

If it's common knowledge, is it something you can mention for those that don't know?

Hopefully it wasn't more sex tapes.

No not that.

Rumour is he was dropped for Bathurst for missing sessions. Then did the same in NSW Cup here we are with him not named for the 3rd week in NSW Cup. Hopefully it is him being a dick and not sick family or something like that as to where he is.

Is it still a valid signing if Gould did it without board approval?
Unless the contract says "subject to board approval" then yes it is valid. If it is reasonable for Jed and his agent to assume that Gus had authority then a court would uphold the contract (generally speaking).

Our two best ever teams had a good splash of outside talent. I’m not suggesting we go in the complete opposite direction and ignore juniors. Im suggesting we do both.

You said yourself, Gould was only looking for outside talent to fill gaps. That’s the wrong way to go about it. If we have a good player in a certain position, but can get a better player on the open market, we should do it. Not just settle for good.

Also don’t understand what you mean by we don’t have the money? Everyone operates within the same cap, and last I looked we have had several third party deals.

It’s not a matter of attracting the best outside talent, it’s a matter of attracting *better* talent that we have, even if that means dispensing with a good player.

Gould did this in his early years here, but his aim was to move away from that. Makes no sense. In that regard I’m glad he’s gone.

There is gaps that untried rookies just won't fix. For example speed and bench utility there is options but a few years away. Provided the price is right no reason to not go after guys from outside.

Cleary the elite guys won't come and probably don't need anyone yet anyway

Gould also attracted some good talent in his early years with the club.

Whare
Soward
Idris
Mansour
Segeyaro
Kite
Brown
Manu

These are the guys that took us further than any other team over Gould’s tenure.

Before 2003 the club brought in

Whatuira
Campbell
Sattler
Pridis
Lang
Gulavou
Ross

You need to stay strongly active in the player market, our juniors aren’t good enough to be a force by themselves.

100% agree.
You always need to bring in outsiders to make up for other areas you may lack. On and off the field.
If they come from a successful club, or the player is experienced, or they are a good trainer you need that to rub off on the other players.

Our recruitment was f**king top notch back then.

Jamie Soward... we signed him while on the outer at Dragons. Not exactly a lifeline. But a chance that Jamie appreciated

Dean Whare... was way too good for NSW Cup. Was playing footy most weeks for Manly but stuck behind a backline that picked itself.

Jamal Idris... we somehow traded Brad Tighe for him. Deal of the century even if we only got 1 good season out of him.

James Segeyaro... dunno what Cowboys were thinking letting anyone get in his ear.

Also grabbed Api Korisau... if we held onto him we would be set for hookers still. But for some reason Gus doesnt believe in NRL quality depth. Lets them leave for a better chance elsewhere.

That's the worst stuff he did. Look at our top 17...then anyone who wasnt a certainty was free to sign elsewhere as it was better for their careers. Even though 12 months later they could have had that same chance for us.

Iirc Gould actually said it was his aim to have a team of either all juniors or guys who debut for us, that’s crazy.
