If he doesn't improve in the next few games Im with you but he showed enough. Playing with 2 halves in the side will also help
Fair enough. 2 halves will help the team undoubtedly. Not sure it makes DWZ a better FB - its too easy for oppositions to target and niggle him until he snaps.

If he can show in the next few weeks that he can keep his agro to a suitable level i.e. no more sin bins or giving penalties if he can help it, then I might give him the benefit of the doubt.

I haven't seen any ball play from him worth noting. No doubt he's a running FB but is that enough to match the better teams?

With a fit Cleary and Maloney playing well? Yes

Kikau and Yeo mean we don't depend on the fullback doing as much. They were huge tonight the way they carry 3 or 4 defenders and can offload

DWZ has bin binned a total of once for fighting.

Okay so that 1st half was what the Maloney nay sayers had always feared...that his rubbish defence would get exposed...and it was. His attack did not make up for it - poor passing, poor general play kicking, knuckle headed penalties....and very unusually some average goal kicks.

This game also showed why putting 2nd rowers in as centres is never a good idea. Yeo is a great defender but his lack of lateral movement and speed could not cover the distances that defending near Maloney created.

Overall we just had too many new defensive combinations and that was exposed throughout the game (mostly first half).

Even though Wallace scored twice and had a good game, this game showed why we need Katoa....every single game. He is just too good to languish in reserves, we look like a completely different team when he is injected into the game. He is just so much quicker and more dangerous than Wallace. We have to be considering moving Wallace on next season. Till then Katoa in the 17 every game.

Our best this game was pretty close between JFH, Peachey and Kikau. Just fantastic they were.

I don't mind Peachey at 6 as long as he doesn't kick the damn thing. Our problem is when our #7 is having an off game, a 6 like Peach doesn't have the skill set to take the pressure off. When our halves get sorted I hope he get a roving commission.

JFH as usual this season, great game for all the obvious reasons.

Kikau was a beast all game, absolute handful....too bad we don't have a canny FB hanging off his hip occassionally. This is where we miss Edwards.

DWZ didn't play badly...but he has a well deserved bad reputation for being a hot head. He has to curb that somehow. To be honest if it were not for Edwards injury I'd be inclined to chuck him into the centres given the current crisis.

Ok, but you can't tell me that there weren't any others during the game. There was one in front of the Cowboys posts that stopped Wallace making a tackle that wasnt called.

DWZ does some defensive kick work being a winger.

Egan has done none at all, and I’m not sure he’s ever played FB. It’s a very specialist position.
If we're down to deciding whether players can handle positioning for kicks and returns, then it starts to sound 50/50 who we go with.

If DWZ had some ball play I'd be happy to persist with him. Similarly if he keeps his shit together. Just not sure he's capable of either.

Hopefully we start to find out in a couple of weeks with Cleary back. Understand it takes time to build combinations but DWZ needs to learn control - seems to play on almost pure emotion. That can be great to watch until it starts costing you momentum and games.

Emotion and aggression kept us in the game. DWZ just went too far.

The way JFH was legally hitting JT,Morgan and Coote after kicking really shook them up

I agree it's a fine line and can hurt the team. Problem is emotion seems to be all we have left and is holding our season together.

Press conference:

Emotion is great used the right way. Go too far though and it can quickly become a negative. Particularly if we have to move Whare to FB as a result.

Agreed on both points. My concern is DWZ loses control, even momentarily, and we're further f**ked for 10 minutes.
If he could replicate JFH's control, then thats 1 of his deficiencies gone. Just need to get him running decent lines of Maloney and Cleary and we might get away with him at FB.
Not sure he'll ever be anything other than a wing/centre covering at FB though.
