Round I saw the 1st year Aston Bulls beat the 2nd year Jacksonville Axeman in what was a great round 1 matchup. More to come on this game and the others.

are you in the tipping comp tomahawk?

You can still join if not - it just means you will get the score for picking all away sides for the first round.

T-Hawk, who played well for each team? Is Germaine Bennett playing for the Bulls again this season?

Philly fight turned up to play the Cats with only 7 players. The Cats filled their ranks and the game ended up about 17 tries to 1 to the Cats

From my inside source the Cats are the team to beat. Very fast and skillfull on the outside, but do not have what they used to in past years in the Front and 2nd Rowers.

I can not believe Philly only got 7 players. Werent they meant to have merged with the Mantarays during the off season? For all the great work done by Connecticut, Jacksonville, and the Slayers, it is sad to hear of the demise of teams like Philly, Boston and Fairfax. Hopefully the AMNRL can step in and get things sorted for these teams.

Any scores from the Raiders V Knights and Warriors v Sharks matches?

It is worrying too, that the Fight could only manage to get 7 players to travel up to Connecticut. Perhaps the abandonment of the conferences may not have been the best thing to do. Is it possible that we could see the demise of the Fight, with the Bulls taking over the mantle of the "Philadelphia" team?

First year in name only T'hawk. Does this mean I'm the leader of the tipping comp? ;-)

I think people do not understand the travel from Philly to Connecticut. It is about a 3+ hour drive if you do not get caught in traffic. It is hard to get players to commit to a trip like this. When gas prices are $3 or more, and people do not want to drive thier vehical that far. Even when the Bulls were supported by Glen Mills school we could not travel with the same numbers as we did at home matches. I remember the Bulls travels up north with 17 guys and a coach. 3 Guys got injured and the coach had to play.

Don't expext a guy with a family to travel 3+ hours on a Saturday, leaving his house at 8 am and not getting home until late night early morning. It single guy with no family might be able to do that, but the most players have families with children. Remember we get pais $0.

There is no excuse. The two teams merged so that something exactly like this would not happen. This is ridiculous. If you cannot field a full side for every game for an entire season you should not be in the league.

Try not to believe everything you read on these forums. While it's true that some teams put more effort in than others, please realize that a lot of time, effort, and money goes into every club and sometimes situations arise that prevent things from going as planned. There are a lot of comments posted here based on nothing but conjecture with acual facts often omitted or just plain ignored. The guys that put the effort in deserve more respect than being dragged through these forums by people who have never seen an AMNRL game let alone played in one or have any idea what it takes to set-up, run, manage, market, coach, and organize a team in this country. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but please understand that every team is striving to field the best team they can every year and to meet the standards of the Bulls, Wildcats, or Axemen. With limited funds, 300 other sports in the US, and limited time, this is a real challenge.

So what are you saying? You'd rather see the AMNRL with one less team? The Fight should be commended for fulfilling their fixture. At the end of the day, this is amateur football. Loaning of players to fulfill fixtures happens allover the world in amateur football, in competitions that have been around much longer than AMNRL such as BARLA in the UK. In what is essentially still a development league teams should be encouraged to get through a season by hook or crook for the sake of keeping a team alive. If this means travelling with half a dozen or so players and borrowing some extras then they shouldn't be bagged for it!

Don't they have this problem every year when Union and league seasons overlap (and Union finals take precedence).
Anyway - it just isn't acceptable IMO.

Some clubs are very professional in the way they approach the game now - they shouldn't be dragged down by clubs who can't get their sh*t together.

T hawk thats BS, some teams are just too lazy to come up here. My hat goes off to the 7 guys that did come and played hard.

But to everyone else thats BS. For years we've sacrificed and made every trip with a full strength squad, why can't other teams do the same? Or at least show up with 13.

We all have familys, jobs, and money issues. Bottom Line, New York, CT, and New Haven always make the sacrifice, with the exception of the bulls, the other teams dont care enough to come up here. One summer I drove to philly 4 times and the shore. They can't even come once, f*cking BS if you ask me.

Also we're bigger faster and more skilled than ever, the only thing that matters is how we play (god willing we make it) on the 26th of August in Jacksonville.

It's a good job none of those players play in the British national conference leagues where a three hour + trip to Cumbria in the depths of winter await some teams. Seven players from two merged teams is disgraceful IMO.

Delco Sports Club Bulls too strong for Jacksonville Axemen

The Aston Delco Sports Club Bulls opened up the new season with a dominant performance over the Jacksonville Axemen by the convincing scoreline of 46 to 18 at Neumann College in Aston. The Axemen got off to a flying start and led 6-0 early in the match after Frank Radosta took an interception to cruise 50 yards to the tryline.

The early exchanges saw the Axemen dominate field position and the scoreboard as the Bulls made a number of simple errors turning over possession frequently.

Humid conditions made it difficult for both teams but it was the Bulls who handled the heat and control of the football to ultimately run out big winners in round one.

The Bulls will face the NJ Sharks (1-0) in a traditional rivalry that always features a close match and fiery exchanges.
Kickoff time is 5pm at Neumann College and a big crowd is expected to be on hand to see the two unbeaten teams battle to hold top spot on the competition standings.

Aston Bulls - 46
Tries - Marcus Vassilakopoulos-3, David Niu-1, Mike Edwards-1, Matt Shannon-1, Corey Sheridan-1, D. Lewis-1, Chris Craig-1.
Goals - Marcus Vassilakopoulos 5

Jacksonville Axemen - 18
Tries-Frank Radosta-1, Vandellen-1, M. Henderson-1
Goals - Perry Vaught-3
