That’s true, but I think most of them use Origin as a cash grab. All the IRL has to do is make teams tier 1 (Samoa and Tonga) and then you have to make a choice between Origin or Heritage. The rules shouldn’t have been tweaked to include other players, not needed.
They can't sell the myth that Origin is the pinnacle without the Islanders.

So Mclean who's lived his whole life and played here should be denied an opportunity?

A Friday night thrashing of the Roosters, it doesn't get much better than that. Robbo actually looked shocked, he was very quiet and didn't make any comments about the ref for a change.

As for us, Ivan took to using the bench much more evenly than usual. He spelled Yeo, Martin and Papali'i for about 10 minutes each. That gave Sorro, Garner and Phillips a solid 30 minutes plus each. I hope he keeps doing that. In a long season, all the those breaks add up and will help keep our best players fresh.

A look at the game statistics reveal a few interesting facts. Firstly, the Roosters had more post contact metres, more tackle breaks and they missed fewer tackles. Their effective tackle percentage was better than ours. Possession was as even as possible. 44 sets Panthers versus 43 sets Roosters.

Better tackling, better PCM and even possession and yet they were thrashed. It says a lot about our defensive system that even when missing tackles, we don't concede tries. Last week, we missed more tackles than the Sharks as well. The scramble and 1% plays are what make the difference. "Held up in goal" is a regular item for our defence as is "stopped inches from the line". Effort and teamwork beat superstars every time.

Milky. Woof!

I’m a bit the same, when our team sucked, I loved origin, now that we are in genuine contention each year, I don’t really care for it.

I do like the rule changes though, especially for the likes of Romey - Bizza - Casey etc.

In regard to missed tackles, our boys have had game with huge counts but it doesn't show on the scoreboard (circa 2005 I noticed that points against correlated very strongly with missed tackles which generally still holds).

The Ciraldo defensive system seems to be based on disrupting opposition structures rather than pure tackle efficiency.

The Eels got their wins during the 2020s by offloading like crazy and having them stick.

Ofcourse Yeoweh does have insane tackle efficiency in the middle and contrary to popular belief hits hard when needed. Generally only on the goal line, see Origin in 2021 and the pacific cup final in 2024 with huge tackles stopping near certain tries.

I lost interest a few years.

like everything else in the game, our administrators can’t help selves and now changing eligibility rules for SOO.

For 3 games it ruins 6 rounds of footy. Times that by 8 games and thats close to 48 games where your best players are missing. Hardly anyone backs up these days.
It's nothing more then a novelty and the worse part is game 3 when its a deal rubber well that along with listening to people who dont follow rugby league talk about origin.

The idea of a rep week has been floated a lot. Don't know how I feel about it.

If McLean gets picked it highlights how bad the center stocks are for nsw .Given the Crighton has one spot locked up .A player who then switches allegiance walks in who is still very early on in his career

The other centre will be Latrell regardless of form

Baring injury Fatboy and Crichton will be the centres. With Lomax gone a wing spot is open.
The Daley favourite of Turbo will put his hand up for it. Probably get injured beforehand though.

The quality of the games over that period is rubbish.
Stand alone has been tried and once again floated.
The problem is the NRL hates having no club games in Sydney or Brisbane that weekend.
The casual fan will tune out for the week.
There is no perfect solution.
