Has been summed up well already.

Gus is clearly one of the best operators in the sport. But with Gus comes upheaval. He doesn't sit on his hands and wants results.

He is absolutely the guy to turn your club into a consistent top 8 team. Warriors couldn't keep him unfortunately but the Bulldogs got him and look at them now. Night and day difference to where they were before.

Like him or hate him, he’s one of the main reasons we are where we are.

Gus has his flaws, but he is great at his job

To be honest, A lot of administrators do this. Personally I'll never forget how Gus brought Penrith back from the brink. Perhaps his best appointment was Matt Cameron and Ivan Cleary.

We wouldn't have the academy without Gus's work either.

(edit much later) Tom, I'm sorry to hear about your steroid withdrawal. It's not easy,)
Have you done steroid withdrawal? I got put on 25mg a day for 5 days and taken up to 50mg the day fefore admission for 5 days. I don't know what dose I was on for those 5 days, but I was put on 60mg/3 days, 25 mg/5 days, 12.5mg/ 3 days and then 3 days at 5mg. I start the 5mg dose tomorrow. My blood sugars are all ove, although reasonable at present. If you have done steroid withdrawal I would be interested in your (or others) experience.

Yes I have done. It was about 20 years ago. I don'r have blood sugar issues, so I didn't suffer like you have done.

I found it difficult pain wise, but elsewhere OK.

I can imagine when it involves blood sugar that would make it much harder.

I don't have any pain, but do have weakness, fatigue, dizziness and a 'spaced out' feeling. In hospital they had me on 2 extra insulins and they were monitoring me constantly. When I came home I was hovering at about 15 - 17, reaching 22 one afternoon/evening. I was earlier down to 7.7 (good) but am currently about 10. Hospital gave me a unit that links to my phone which reports data to them. And all I wanted for my birthday was to watch the boys play on my birthday (6th) and and have a few cold ciders. Instead I got put in hospital. All good though. Cider still in fridge and looking forward maybe next week for some cider and footy.

The Gus Gould love him or hate him has been done to death over the years.

I think Gus saved us as a club and did a great job in his time with the Panthers.

Its ancient history now and whether you love him or hate him is past history and a matter of personal opinion.

My run down on Gould at Panthers.
He joined in May 2011. Success I guess began in 2020. So it took the best part of 10yrs.

Rewind the clock 15yrs ago and how many clubs were actually as professional as they are now? I would estimate maybe 2 or 3.
This is where Gould helped. Turned you into a professional club and helped set the juniors and staff up.

For me the biggest difference now and then for Gould is most clubs bar 2 or 3 are fairly professional and have started spending money and prioritising juniors so its a far more difficult assignment for him.
His best attributes now will be he is able to get TPAs and sign big names. The problem he has is he likes to tinker and that can upset the playing group.
Look how many players he has pissed off at the Dogs. It's fine whilst travelling well but one bad year and things will get messy and could explode I reckon.
They are actually lucky to be 2- 0 Bar a few rough reefing calls they should be 0 - 2 and pressure mounting.

Perfectly valid change. A lot of these guys are born and raised here but rep their heritage for their parents.
That’s true, but I think most of them use Origin as a cash grab. All the IRL has to do is make teams tier 1 (Samoa and Tonga) and then you have to make a choice between Origin or Heritage. The rules shouldn’t have been tweaked to include other players, not needed.
