The Newtown Jets RLFC wishes to announce the signing of Sean Rudder, the former Newcastle Knights utility player who will bring considerable experience and versatility to the second-placed VB NSW Cup club.

Rudder played 132 NRL games in six seasons with the Newcastle Knights and was a member of the Knights' 2001 NRL premiership-winning team. In recent years he has played in the English Super League competition with the Castleford Tigers and the Catalans Dragons clubs, as well as a stint in Japanese Rugby Union.

Newtown Jets coach Greg Matterson is enthusiastic about Rudder's signing, noting that Sean has played centre, five-eighth, lock and second row in recent years and that, "anyone who has played outside of the likes of Andrew Johns and Stacey Jones for several seasons will bring invaluable experience and street-smarts to Newtown."

Rudder trained with the Jets at Henson Park yesterday afternoon and looks to be champing at the bit to get back into professional Rugby League action in the VB NSW Cup. The second-placed Jets play away to the unbeaten competition leaders North Sydney in the Centenary Heritage round at North Sydney Oval this Saturday at 4.30pm.

eh... he did the job that was asked of him while he was here... particularly in the grand final. he couldn't have picked a better day to have the game of his life, and good on him.

will serve newtown well.

I cant say anything bad about him now. I havent seen him play in years.

He will go down for me as the laziest marker defender i have seen in 32 years, im not knocking him for it, just pointing it out.

Sean doing the turtle next to the ruck, followed by a lightening quick play the ball and chaos ensuing in our defence was always something to look forward to wasnt it.

He may have "done the the job" when playing next to Johns, but when a player of over 100 first grade games can't cut it in the ESL with two teams toward the bottom of the ladder at the time whilst still in his 20's, return and being unable to get a stint with any other club and change codes, it says something about his individual ability.
