The number of teams has fallen a lot since I went to oneGPS schools have multiple rugby teams for every grade.
Nudgee has over 35 teams.
apparently afl has taken a fair chunk

It wasn’t when I went but that was in the 80s and 90sThe fact that you think that the average private school in Australia isn't a multicultural environment shows that you haven't got a clue what you're talking about lol.
We had a 10th 15 at my TAS school in 1981 and all the age groups underneath had 5 or 6 15s.I honestly don't know much about Union or the workings of GPS schools, but I thought it would be far more than 15 guys in the Rugby squad?
I dont know what its like in 2023, but guys I went to Uni with, told me stories of quite literally every kid playing Rugby at these schools, like they had a First 15, second 15 etc. etc.
Like I said, Im no expert.
Yeah but which cultures are represented there? The fact that you think that the average private school in Australia isn't a multicultural environment shows that you haven't got a clue what you're talking about lol.
I went to De La Salle which was strictly league, producing ET, Docking and 2 x Rapers in my time. Union never got a look-in there. It wasn’t when I went but that was in the 80s and 90s
Church of England schools wouldn’t have changed all that much imo catholic schools were far better
but still produce elitist union snobs regularly

it doesn't matter about the religion - just the sporting association that they want to belong toCatholic
but st patts on start field is catholic and oatly
Union
I’m surprised it’s exclusively league
my school had zero league most gps and chs schools are the same
Yes it doesit doesn't matter about the religion - just the sporting association that they want to belong to
Joeys and Parra Marist are both catholic schoolsYes it does
catholic private schools like league as it’s working class roots correlate
coe schools hate league cause it goes back to England where union was the toffs game
Jody’s would be the odd man outJoeys and Parra Marist are both catholic schools
One costs about $30k per year and plays union
The other costs about$5k per year and plays league
There is not really the same level of affordable "private" fee paying schools outside the catholic school system
What about Riverview? Also catholic.Jody’s would be the odd man out
So it’s more a class thing, but most of the time the religious divide falls along the same lines as the class one, with the odd exception like Joeys.Joeys and Parra Marist are both catholic schools

Yeh, its roots are pretty much Irish-working class-catholicSo it’s more a class thing, but most of the time the religious divide falls along the same lines as the class one, with the odd exception like Joeys.
Much do do with differing church attitudes to education too. The Catholic Church has historically been proactive about funding education for the masses and keeping them in the fold. The Church of England generally doesn’t bother, with a few exceptions (I was almost sent to an Anglican boarding school for poor kids in Auckland but it’s the only one I know of)Yeh, its roots are pretty much Irish-working class-catholic
yeah - Joeys is the odd one out, along withJody’s would be the odd man out
didn’t even realise they were catholic we used to play them at union
Fair call I didn’t know so many were catholicyeah - Joeys is the odd one out, along with

my guess is that back in the day the Catholics wanted some of their boys to be doctors as wellFair call I didn’t know so many were catholic
