Few things from that article.
What Rugby (sic) player in their right mind turns down a $4mill a year contract?
Why do they need 35 man squads for a 16 week comp?
Sounds like it will all hinge on a tv deal arising. Whilst it is made for a streaming service who like event type content, is anyone wiling to gamble big $'s on a minor sport in anew format with no record of interest?

They got trillions but they’ve already passed on investing in this as union isn’t a key sport for them

The investors are said to be the glazers and other owners of sports clubs In America and England

They aren’t rich enough it cover the hundred of millions this will lose each year

Theoretically what would it cost?
8 clubs with a $30 mill grant and $20mill salary cap $240mill
Refs, travel, accommodation, stadium hire etc $20mill
Promotion, marketing and Admin costs $20mill
Presumably they'd have to generate their own content to sell to a streaming service $30mill

So annual spend of around $310mil. Give or take a few mill!

I do laugh at some of the Union types though that think it’s just going to be a problem for the NRL and not Australian Rugby
Over at the Roar they are loving it, they think R360 is going to take all the best NRL players, the NRL will go broke and all the players and fans will switch to Union.

Good to see the NRL triggers so many union fans.

I noticed a couple saying the NRL is going to get “some of their own medicine “ … they think that every NRL player has been stolen from the Union junior programs ..lol

It will be interesting see what they do with the tens of milllons coming from the aust govt as part of the png nrl team that are going into Pacific Islanders rl development

That money is only for PNG. It can't be spent in any other country. However, it is intended to also help fund rugby league pathways and development in PNG, not just the NRL team.

The funding is carved up so that $290 million goes to support the team’s operations, $60 million to the NRL’s existing franchises as a licence fee to compensate them for the disruption, and $250 million for a Pacific rugby league partnership, which also covers Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, to encourage grassroots participation and establish a pathway for elite athletes.

Samoan Tongan and Fiji ru running scared of if

There's lots of comparison to other sports doing the same thing as r360 but seems a ridiculous stretch at best! LIV golf, a sport that has always travelled and done events that relies on sole entities.. F1 ,again, always events relying on sole entities. These sports aren't built on tribalism the same way team sports are!
We're talking groups of 30 including coaching staff, flights, accommodation , stadium hire and of course these incredible pay packets they're proposing.
That's unbelievably expensive!!!

You'd need to be selling tickets for $100 and selling out stadiums of 50k every game ...
To watch what?
I'm struggling to see a scenario where it isn't the hardest flop in sporting history.
If the Saudis become involved then it's just a front business, just sports washing dirty money. The undertaking will never have to make a profit ever.

You need 35 man squad because there is 23 as part of each game. Won’t take too many injuries to need your full squad over the 16 weeks.

I don't understand where the market for this game is meant to be. Union fans aren't keen and the general crowd aren't going to suddenly jump on the game because you dress it up like F1. It's going to be a massive failure.
LIV Golf is also a joke.

In this instance I think it might be partly because Qatar are getting heavily into rugby union and the Saudis are naturally unhappy.

What the flogs don't realise is a lot of our players play RL because they love the game and there isn't going to be a mass exodus no matter what.

since it is a made up comp they could have squads of 25 with 20 -30 reserves to fill in for injuries for various team
