Rugby Australia to target top NRL talent

Yep, looking more and more like the NRL could benefit from coexisting with this competition. It's shaping as a full blown war between union and R360 which can only benefit us. Surely there's potential to take on some of there players now that the Rugby World will have effectively banned them. Also, when Pappy , Munster, Haas and co start carving the competition up it's going to only increase the NRLs international profile, as it becomes obvious where all the best rugby players on the planet originate from.
Pane Haas is worth about 1 million but to go to this, he won't entertain anything under 3..not even talk..
Meaning, unless it's an offer is literally something you can't refuse he's not interested.
Because he'd be leaving the biggest and best Rugby competition in the world to go to a side show pop up out of a corns flakes packet that means nothing and the result is, he'll become irrelevant... That's expensive because it's also unsustainable.

He'll get 3 million for one or 2 years, then it's over and he's finished.. a never was.

This is a RU problem though, big time!

He opens doors by going there, gets a great payday. And if the comp goes down, but he has shown enough. French clubs will be throwing big money at him. I could imagine him at 12/13 in the backline being a hard bugger to bring down.

Doors? Money.. that's it. And over the long term, that might not even be the case.
If he stays where he is, he'll have a good 10 year career, then add all the possible positions he'll be offered once he hangs up the boots. He'll be forever in Brisbane and RL royalty

I think in the World Rugby statement they refer to NRL not Rugby League, shows that world union officials are well aware of NRL and what it is doing down here.

You might be correct in that observation. But the fact is rugby league is irrelevant anywhere else apart from the NRL comp in Australia.

R360 will be a soulless financial disaster which won’t kill NRL or rugby union, but the damage will last for years
While R360 waves millions at elite players, the competition cannot buy what matters most. And when it fails, rugby union and the NRL will have survived, albeit with some lasting damage.

News Sport Network

NRL: Payne Haas' management has put R360 talks on hold.
R360 has not even seen a ball kicked in anger and already we know the big winners … the players who say no to joining it.
Most will get a pay rise they never expected. All will have their reputations slightly enhanced. None will be branded rebels, not that it matters much.
They might even get to play in full stadiums at home rather than a small gathering of expats and curious locals in Miami and Barcelona.
Much like LIV golf in the United States (as opposed to its Adelaide event) R360 is set for a hollow journey of the shamelessly mercenary operation it is.
Can you imagine how soul-less and unattended some of the vanilla-flavoured games will be when, let’s say, the London Leather Patches play the Dubai Drillers.
Rows of empty seats will be in the future of players who take the cash to join the R360 competition. Picture: Getty

Who would care? The players certainly won’t so long as they get their cash.
The sad thing is that even if the new venture struggles badly it won’t really boost or matter to rugby union or rugby league because the damage will have been done.
R360’s big imprint will be not as a game changer but a disruptor.
Neither code will be put out of business by R360 but the loss of stars always hurts, particularly with two new rugby league teams on the horizon.
Rugby union, in particular, will surprise the R360 recruiters when they realise there is one thing in their code money cannot buy ... it’s soul.
There’s one thing R360 can’t buy: Soul. Picture: Getty

They will find out soon enough that rugby union may have turned professional nearly 30 years ago but a part of its soul never left the amateur era.
Wales may have lost 18 Tests in a row recently but the fans will still be swinging from the rafters at Cardiff Arms Park the next time they play England. That’s rugby.
Australia has not won the Bledisloe Cup against New Zealand since 2002 yet we all tuned in to see the Wallabies lose in Perth on Saturday. That’s rugby.
The Wallabies never beat the All Blacks... but the fans still turn up in droves. Picture: Getty

History matters. In a delicious piece of timing for the traditionalists, the rugby World Cup is in Australia in 2027 and many of the top stars are addicted to its gravitas and Wednesday’s news that R360 players will be banned from playing for their country is a major move.
World Cups come and go in cricket and rugby league but in union they make legends.
Shine in a rugby World Cup and you are never forgotten. Money cannot buy that fame. It feels like their Olympics.
Payne Haas is reportedly in the sights of R360 - but why? Picture: Getty

The new competition have picked some curious targets. Broncos prop Payne Haas may be the world’s best in his trade but he is not very well known in Adelaide, never mind Spain.
They want him to enhance television appeal to which we ask … really? For games played in Europe at midnight Australian time? Talk about a viewing audience of friends and family.
Our tip is that Haas will reject the rebels, get a $200,000 pay rise to stay with the Broncos and then thank his good fortune for being a beneficiary of a crazy sporting world.

Seeing pro union people panicking about r360 is awesome.

The impact on nrl will be minimal. Whilst union could be ripped apart especially as they seem to be stupid enough to be banning players

Tosser even says the cricket World Cup is behind the Union one lmao

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the NRL final just rate higher than All blacks vs Wallabies?

If R360 take all the Wallabies... will anyone notice? Seriously. Apart from former NRL players, I could bump into anyone of them on the street and not know who they are.. after telling me they play for the Wallabies.. still have no clue.

Every time they print these articles, it's always an NRL player that's mentioned or nobody would read it.

So, to me it looks like a codes on it's knees.. is just about to loose it's knees.

Tell em where to stick it boys

From the article by Bullflog Ritchie

“This is real and credible - it’s Super League 2.0. History is repeating itself” one well placed source close to R360…

Bullflog goes on to admit Walsh is signed at the Broncos until 2029 … but says R360 could offer to “ pay out their deals ( lol) or the players could could agitate for a release “…

“R360 will start with the biggest names and get them locked away - that’s what Super League did. “

R360 insiders are aware that luring multiple stars away from rugby league could weaken the NRL’s next Broadcast Deal

Apparently though all the Wallabies players will stay loyal to the ARU … they are prepared to sacrifice millions all for the honour of playing for the green and canary yellow jersey ..

It doesn't appear that this thing is meant to appeal to Australians anyway, I mean they don't even have a team proposed here.

Funnily enough though, no-one on the BBC Rugby news is really talking about this, and no- one in Australia Union seems to either. (From what I can Google).

This is the only article I could find this week https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-union/articles/c0m43d30rjko

It really seems like RL player agents are the ones giving this the most oxygen via their proxies in the media. They would love to have a unlimited salary cap.

I guess the reality is, NRL is the only Rugby comp in the world that gets enough clicks to pay journos.
What Wallabies player could you put up that would get attention? It's at that level around the world, the only real traction they get is internationals, which we had their joint statement yesterday..

I also suspect there is an element of Union journos not looking to drag their sport through the mud looking for cheap clicks and sensational headlines on stories that are unlikely to happen …no problem for our media though …

That makes no sense. R360 aren't even looking at having a team in Australia or games here. Why would they care about our broadcasters?

i expect a few more of this shit articles as the seasons over and journos gotta write something.

That's the part Union don't get and never will. NRL is thriving in controversy, characters and drama. It's a never ending soap opera with battles in-between, that's also why UFC thrives.
Buzz does more for our game then people realize.
