except that it's not the season opener or even pseudo season opener. It's a fun preseason tournament followed by more trials the next week and WCC and THEN the season opener.

Not sure if I agree, it replaced the indigenous game and that was on free to air with a lot of hype and of course before the indigenous games we had the world sevens. I realize its just a fun thing ( with more prize money than winning the comp) but I think it will be the start of the media saturation on NRL
