Don't know if SA would support league as they are very passionate about their rugby

I remember a story (One I tell about ever 30 seconds) of a former RSA union player who decided to sign with an Australian League club during the SL war.

This player was told that if he made the move he and his family would find life very difficult.

The player rang the Bulldogs back and said sorry, but he would have to stay in RSA and play union.

Golden rule of all diehard RL supporters: Never EVER refer to union as rugby

Basically like the way the term "football" is used. It has so many different sports assoicated to it around the world

Right on. Every time you call them that you flatter them. Elevate them and denegrade us.

Everytime you say it, you might as well drive to the ARU office and give their CEO Gary Flowers a kiss on the cheek.

Remember we are a RUGBY league. Accentuate the RUGBY part.

There is no co-incidence that the ARU has made a concerted effort to hijack the term RUGBY over the last several years. And the man behind it was John O'neil who is now with soccer, who now are trying to hijack the term football.

It is the same game plan.

I think the ONLY way League could ever really happen in RSA is if the NRL basically made a massive push over there. Get clubs like the Broncos, Bulldogs and Roosters playing games over there. Set up a semi professional competition.....set up direct pathways into the Australian games and play regular internationals in South Africa.

This would ALL have to be funded by the NRL and run by Australians that were sent over there.

Thats just to get the basics up and running.

Do you think it will ever happen?

f**k these yarpies crack me up! The backward inbred f**ks think they have the right to insult OUR culture!!!
This is coming from the team that was forced to strip naked at gunpoint and crawl through jungle in order to "toughen" them up for the 2003 RWC!

I f**ken hate South Africans!

What about union calling league a simple game yet they need rugby league defensive coaches to teach them defensive strategies. Hypocrites.

For RL to really get going in SA it would need backing, and that would mean sponsors and any company sponsoring RL, unless it was a huge company, would soon find itself in difficulty with the friendly local union community. It has happened before in SA.

Basically what Jake White is saying is that RU culture is so weak that all it takes is a couple of ex RL players and the whole thing crashes down around them.

I wonder how Sailor and Tuquiri will react to Whites statement, certainly the ARU should demand an apology - if they don't it essentially means they agree with him, it would certainly suit their agenda.

What exactly is a Rugby League culture, and how is it any different to a Rugby Union culture.

So this moron is trying to convince us that if you play RU instead of RL, you will behave differently off the field.

I think they are refering to players who go out of their way to run clinics in rural towns and organise sports sponsorships of jurnior clubs.

Who cares what some pig farming yarpie thinks. A bit rich to criticise someone elses culture when you live in a country where although apartheid no longer exists in law, the attitudes that underpinned it are still very prevalent in society. Unrelated, I decided to watch that 'test' match last night, I am not joking in saying I fell asleep within 20 minutes. I cannot see the attraction in union, it is one of the most boring sports I have ever watched. The thing is, a few simple rule changes could make it alot better. Although then they'd 'bring themselves down' to our level. What else would you expect from a code that was shamateur for the best part of 80 years.

I've emailled them too. It won't do anything, but at least he'll know we've got a voice.

Wait a sec...But I remember something like a video getting released of black players being stripped naked and pushed into creeks by white players or something??

Meh, anyway, it makes RU pretty stupid by that comment.

I think you'll find that of all the hostile places in the world for League to be played......RSA is the very worst.

The only way league could ever get going over there is if the NRL pushed really hard to get a League going.

Even then...its not so much the problems League would face as the problems the people who choose League could face if that ever happened.

Good point LF. Also im not sure if the coloured communtiy would be very receptive to any form of Rugby, it would be a tough task.
