This move which meshes Western Sydney clubs Penrith Panthers,Parramatta Eels and West Tigers, and is headed by the respected by former Parramatta Eels general manager Greg Mitchel. The project was maintaining a strong hold sports stats in the region.
``The urgency was driven by us wanting to maintain our number one status as a sport in western Sydney,' Mitchell said.
``We're all subject to competition and we wanted to ensure our game was the game of choice. The leagues, NRL and NSWRL, worked hard to get the program up and running.'
The project's community relations co-ordinator, Bruce Walker, said ``This will be looking after junior rugby league, research and community relations and it will cover the vast area of western Sydney which has 20,000 players and that represents 45 per cent of the total juniors in NSW,' Mr Walker said.
``We're doing what other codes are hoping to do.'

There is nothing like the threat of AFL moving to the west to motivate rugby league to do something. It's a positive step.

Greg Mitchell? never heard of him...

seriously though, this is a wonderful initiative though, not only because of the threat of other codes but also the threat of NRL clubs outside the Western Sydney district..

Of course, it moved to Blacktown, but I'm pretty sure it was at Parramatta at some point.

Only started two years ago and was, as MITS mentioned, situated at Ringrose Park. They are using the much better facilities at Western Weekender this year....

The new training base - thanks to the generosity of the Parramatta Club and the Parramatta Marist Brothers College - will be the Marist College at Westmead. The official match venue is the St Marys Leagues Club facility "Western Weekender" Stadium. Through collaboration with the NSWRL, the Parramatta and Penrith NRL Clubs, and the strong support of the St Marys Leagues Club, the Academy is able to provide this unique opportunity for western Sydney athletes to remain within their junior districts and represent their local clubs proudly in the highest standard competition at this age level.

The Western Academy Office was running out of CUA stadium initially until a permanent location was decided upon. The 2 Grades ie: Matts & Ball used to Train at Western Weekender. Funding was gained from the NRL along with the 3 District Clubs and Sponsorships to aid with setting up a permanent Base located at the Olympic Sports precinct in Blacktown. The teams now train out of Marist until new facilities are developed to accomodate the teams in Blacktown.

Former Eels General Manager Greg Mitchell has devised an awesome group of Staff to assist in the day to day running out there.. Marty Meredith and Former Eel John Wilson both playing key roles in development and education...

They are now in Blackotwn and will eventually p

Western Sydney Academy of SPORT fish..... ;-) yes, they run the show but the league team have never trained or played out of Parra Stadium.

Doubt the Fish.

Suity

No, dont doubt the fish, because going back to my first post

so is this a lost tennant for the stadium if they have moved to penrith?

the stadium have indeed lost a tennant

The Western Sydney Academy of Sport, formerly at Parramatta Stadium, has relocated its administration premises to a new facility at Penrith CUA Stadium, where it intends growing its program and athlete numbers to provide even more quality development opportunities for local youngsters
