i just can't believe that decidedly beaten up condemned stand hasn't collapsed during any of the earthquakes.

i mean seriously, that thing looked like a death trap when i saw it in 2007.

That was one of the few amusing things post quake(s)...going passed and seeing that thing still standing proudly. It is ironic considering how newer and apparantly stronger builders copped a hiding. I guess it's all down to the ground they're on. And mother nature is very selective, munts one building while the one next door is more or less unscathed. Strange really.

So if this is a temporary lease for up to six years, and they are erecting temporary stands, what exactly will be left at the end of this when they move out? Will there be a stadium left for the CRL to use or will it be a couple of pitches and a car park?

I am a little concerned about the term 'temporary stands' tbh...the RL community may not get as much out of it as we first thought:? I do hope good will & fairness are going to come into it.

I've seen over the years on this forum and other league forums fans complaining about the state of RUGBY LEAGUE PARK. Yes it's in capitols because that's what it is. And I'm sure the CRL complained to the Christchurch City Council about the shame of the state of those grounds on numerous occasions, but to no avail.

It takes a fricken rugby team to become homeless before they get off their arse and pull out their cheque books to build a new stadium. While they're at it, they should do up all the fricken mediocre league grounds around their city.

The point I'm making is where is the equity in the provision of funding to ALL sports? This country is not only about rugby, cricket, rowing, cycling and other elitism, private schooled, and white collar sporting.

Hmm, I think this country is ALL about white collar elite sporting. ****ing Halbergs proves that year after year;-)

Yes, that'll be another rant ...

Even the All Blacks doctor will get an award this year, so they'll probably clean up in all sections.

And lets not forget the impending New Years awards, some will get knighthoods. And for f**k sake, Richie McCaw and Graham Henry were about 10m's and about 15* from becoming the most hated people in NZ when the French missed the penalty. If only the stupid French 1st five took a drop goal in the 74th minute ....

Anddd.... Graham Henry .... this is your life! Zzzzz It amazing they're not putting his name up there next to the Wellington airport.

Let's name and shame some city league grounds; Jubilee Park, Whangarei (are they making hay there this summer); Davies Park, Huntly (need I say more); Resthills, Hamilton (how far out of the city do you want league to play at); Carlaw, (RIP).

The point I'm making is where is the equity in the provision of funding to ALL sports? This country is not only about rugby, cricket, rowing, cycling and other elitism, private schooled, and white collar sporting.

Hope the CRL have some balls and are wearing the pants. I would expect a gym built with indoor training facilities, they should be able to negotiate the catering contracts at the grounds, security contracts, bar facilities and anything else that they had control of at their grounds. Because after all it is still the CRL's RUGBY LEAGUE PARK!

I remember that shithole... i played a couple of games there as a junior. i couldn't believe it was Northlands premier league ground.

Okara Park is miles ahead....

I don't want to piss on their parade, as if they'd lost they would be public enemies...But you take the Kiwis: Won the world cup, by quite a margin in the end, against what was called the best team in history let alone in the tournament, in their own world cup. Then you take the ABs, regarded as the codes yardstick, that limped to a one point victory over an apparent crap side in their own home world cup...

Guess which one will get the most accolades?;-)

Accolades are rewarded for outstanding achievement and excellence.

so quite rightly... the all blacks will... and why wouldn't they??

winning the world cup for them is a crowning glory on 4 years of dominance over the rugby world.

The kiwis get there arse handed to them for 100 years and when they fluke a win in a final there supposed to be celebrated for excellence??

ohhh but wait... we dont count all the one-off tests because the kiwis only play well when there in camp for a couple of months...

Ah- but how often do the ABs win in the Halbergs WITHOUT a WC? They're generally always dominant most years, and tbh they haven't been as usually dominant this year as others. But on that basis, when they are excellent most years and should have won. The fact remains they will probably clean up this year-leaving you with the conclusion the Halberg judges are basing it on the one performance.
Playing Devils advocate here- That the Halbergs are a pile of shit full of pompous snobby judges;-)

Good point. Whens Thorn retiring?

not that it really maters but why? ones an aussie and ones a kiwi... Athough both identify themselves as Kiwis.

Nathan Frederick Cayless (born 28 March 1978 in Sydney, New South Wales)
Bradley Carnegie Thorn (born 3 February 1975 in Mosgiel, New Zealand)

Wasn't asking for any sympathy. Always had this view since converting and align my views for sticking up for the underdog.

And the fact the Halbergs are incredibly snobby. Lets even take the Kiwis WC out of it...and mention the softballers, the black ferns, the sevens (sevens especially with their amazing coach)...
One perfect example of exactly how snobby the Halbergs are: Listening to Brendon Telfer, Halberg judge, trying to justify (and failing appallingly) why certain olympic gold medals mean more than others. Basically, all the glory ones.

Sigh...ALL World Cups are won by being the best team on the day in question. No matter how you put it- The ABs are supposed to be the best in the World, there or thereabouts. Yet- they only scraped in by a single point, in their own home cup, vs a crap team.
The Kiwis beat the undoubted best in the World, in an away WC- the Worlds Best own home WC. And did it convincingly in the end.
Which is the biggest achievement?;-)
