Rugby losing its entertainment value ?

Most rugby league teams will go through to the last tackle before kicking. It'd be less than 10% that teams don't deliberately give over possession for territory before their final allotment of tackles is up.

And in their own half there are usually 4, sometimes 5 one pass plays. Boring to watch when you compare it to backline moves, but completely necessary and understandable. I would expect more 40/20's when possible, regardless of the tackle count - but apparently a dummy half run for 6 metres or another 4 metre hit up is preferable.

At the end of these maneuvers, you need an accurate kicker with a decent variety up his sleeve. If your team doesn't have a player with these skills at 6 or 7 in league your team is absolutely stuffed. It's all about gaining territory, pressuring the opponents in their own half/quarter, and then playing for the try.

The other major factor in league is that there is no contest for the ball. So running from dummy half, or one pass & barge, are the least risky plays a team can use. It's the pick & drive equivalent.

It can be all be fixed with two simple rules... change it back to team going forward keeps the ball if it is stuck in a ruck... that will stop the kicking... and for gods sake bring back rucking!!!

Give this man a beer.

Went to exactly two Waratah home games this year rather than the full compliment. Talk about watching paint dry, how on earth they ended up playing this brand of rugby is anyones guess.
