Of course it is.. after all thats the first part of its name.... in the article he at no time mentions League... he is talking about his code of Rugby. He is perfectly entitled to do so since it is its name. He is under no obligation to acknowledge that League is another code of Rugby, why would he? he isnt talking about League at all.

Perhaps you should read the article before commenting on it.

So he thinks one is rugby and the other isn't - he is wrong. It's quite simple. There is no trolling involved in pointing out the mistakes in a press release.
You are so fill of sh*t... He calls League "Rugby League"... therfore he obviously believes League is a form of Rugby... its quite obvious to anyone of more than half a brain cell...

It comes down to you, who is incidently in the minority in the southern hemisphere, not liking the fact the Rugby is called Rugby and Rugby League is called "Rugby League" or just "League"... the article is in no way wrong... you may not like it... but it is not wrong.

He claims rugby league isn't rugby. He is quite explicit in that claim. If Eales was a man of integrity he would have referred to union as "rugby union" in his press release.

No he doesnt and no he shouldnt.. quote for me where he says "Rugby League isnt Rugby".. I bet you cant... because he didnt say it at all... you just lied.

Just because you call the game "Rugby Union" doesnt mean he has to... Most people in the SH shorten Rugby League down to League and Rugby to Rugby...

Give it up.. you are wrong.. you are harping on about a non exiistent issue.

He writes:

Rugby league has had its own share of trouble but no more than usual and it has consistently proved exceptionally resilient to much worse in the past.
Rugby has also not been without the wrong type of headlines of late

He differentiates between rugby league and something he refers to as "rugby". It doesnt matter what people in the southern hemisphere mistakenly call the codes. In a press release he should refer to them correctly, something he fails to do and as such his article is incorrect.

YOU refer to League as "Rugby" so that means you are wrong according to your own warped argument.

The only mistake here is made by you... He calls "rugby" "rugby" he calls "league" "Rugby League".. in this he is correct. His targeted readers agree with those definitions.

He has every right to call his code "Rugby" just as you have every right to call "League" "Rugby"... anybody who says otherwise is an idiot.

Actually, Rugby Union in Australia has only been referred to as "Rugby" since it became openly professional, before that, "Rugby" was called either Union or Rugby Union and League was called Rugby League or League.

And in NZ its always been called "Rugby".. the fact that some Aussies do as now is irrelevant.. Anybody can call either code of Rugby "Rugby" if they so choose to, and they would be right... Had league authorities encouraged their supporters to do so first then the ARU wouldnt have been able to.

Nobody has the trademark on "Rugby" and anybody in either code can call their code Rugby.. that will never change.

But to say someone lied when they referred to their code as simply "rugby" is both idiotic and wrong.

True. Most, if not all, the Sydney clubs have "Rugby Union" in their names.

"Eastwood District Rugby Union Football Club", for example.

However, the notion that RL supporters would ever talk about the "rugby", meaning their own game, is so ludicrous that it could only exist in the mind of a paranoid idiot.

Have a think about it. I am a bloke writing on a messageboard on a rugby league website. Eales has produced a press release in his capacity as whatever he is for the QRU - as such it is an official press release and an honourable man wouldn't have tried to kid people into believing that there is "rugby" and rugby league. It doesn't matter how people refer to the codes in private, in public press releases they should be referred to correctly without the hypocrisy of claiming union is just "rugby" and rugby league isn't.

Most RL supporters I know do and my local rugby club doesn't play union however I doubt they would claim in an official press release that the game they play has sole rights to the single word "rugby"

That is a massive pile of horse sh*t... he is not trying to "kid" people into anything, he is refering to his code.... he at no time stated that "Rugby League" is not Rugby... your continuing stating he did makes you a liar.. he has every right to call his code "Rugby", just like another other person has to call League Rugby... to deny him the right to do this makes YOU the hypocrite not him.

So you real beef is that he has a bigger profile than you... you do EXACTLY what he does, the problem is that he can get his published and you get ridiculed.... small penis syndrome there.

How many RL supporters do you know? What proportion of the world population of RL fans use the term "rugby" to refer to RL? Given that most of the world's fans are in Australia, and Australians seem to have accepted the use of the name "rugby" to refer to the 15 man code (including such notables as David Gallop), I think the ayes probably have it.

Sadly for you, the battle seems to have been won and lost. The International Rugby Board doesn't seem to have much opposition when it comes to nomenclature.

Why does it matter to you? Why not just get on with life, enjoy the code you prefer, and maybe a good, new, name will come from somewhere, to distinguish it from the bad guys.

I just did.. whe does he say that "rugby League" is not a form of "rugby"??? When he says "Rugby" he is clearly talking about his code of rugby... if you cant understand that then you really are the fool that most on the boards think you are.
