Rule Changes/Concepts

I think it's ok...but somemtimes there'd be 4 or 5 people standing there and would limit dummy half running. What about people who fall off the tackle?

I'd rather them crack down on a few rules more so than change them.

* Quick tap penalty. A player is supposed to be able to tap the ball and play on as soon as the ref has marked the spot, but whenever anybody does it the ref makes them go back, wait for the defence to be ready and make him do it again. IMO if the defending team can't be ready then they deserve to get run through.

* Bring back 5 minute sin bin. Use it for repeat offences of laying in tackles or backchat.

* Whatever happened to cracking down on players walking off the mark after being tackled?

* Video ref should be able to help with calls on blatant forward passes.

* Bring back pushing in scrums and a contest for the ball...too many scrums also slow down the game too much...maybe just make it a change over for drop balls...scrums for the ball going into touch.

CALL TIME OFF WHEN THE BALL IS OUT OF PLAY. ESPECIALLY FOR LINE DROP OUTS.
A team can take 40 seconds to drop the ball out...a game can be won or lost in that time. When the ball goes out of play time should be called off. They get the same 40 seconds to kick the ball...but without it being taken off the game clock. Give them a warning after 30 seconds that if they don't kick in the next 10 seconds they get penalised.

Time should also be called off for kicks at goal.

How many minutes in a game are wasted when there isn't any actual football being played?

This.

A variation on the 40-20 rule

If a team plays the ball within the 20 and has a attacking raid that gets them inside the opposition 20 then the team gets another set of 6

Tactical 2-point Field Goals

Rule:
If a player kicks a field goal from 40m out their team is awarded 2 points, not the standard 1 point. This could maybe be reduced to 30m.

Why:
Field goals are hard regardless, especially at a distance. There is no doubt though that when the score is locked up then field goal kicking battles are exciting.

This rule would work when a team is down by 1 or 2 points. If down by 2 then the team must either work for a penalty (grubby) or a "hail mary" style try. This gives the team the ability to claw back two points.

If down by 1 point then a 2-point field goal would give them the lead.

It should be at 40m, and even still, im a little iffy on it. Some teams may just constantly aim for field goals from this distance out, instead of putting in a good attacking kick, or even still, a bomb which may lead to a try. Would the team that kicked the field goal get the two points and the ball back, or just the points?

1. Set penalties as you see in the NFL.

Award possession and/or tackle counts & metres as penalties rather than the arbitrary system we have now.

The same infringement can result in completely different outcomes depending on where on the field the infringement occurs and when in the tackle count it occurs.

2. Bring back proper knock-on rulings rather than the drop-ball rule that refs apply nowdays.

Another one from NFL - but it is not a rule change. In the Jets/Cowboys match this week one team rolled through 3 plays/downs and the commentators did not say a word.

Our TV commentators should say less. Much , much less.

If TEAM A (attacking team) has the ball stripped by TEAM B -

BUT - before Team B can play the ball Team A strips/steals it back - THEN -

TEAM A should be on the same tackle count as previously -

They SHOULD NOT get another set of 6

After tonight, golden try. A game of that quality shouldn't be decided by field goals.

It was a great game - imagine if the golden point period was both sides vying for a try instead though... would've capped the perfect game!

FINAL TRY
* 80th Minute - don't stop the game, whoever has posession keeps playing
* Teams can kick field goals, penalty goals etc and the points get added to the scores
* A try ends the game immediately
* If the scores are still level at 90 minutes, then the game is played until a try is scored
* After 90 minutes any players that are penalised for a professional conduct infringement are sent off the field and cannot return

What if a team is leading due to field/penalty goals at 90 minutes without having scored a try? Do they win?

Yes

Alternatively you could scrap the extra 10 minutes and just play until a try is scored using the player/penalty send off rule.

The 10 minutes is moreso for regular season games.

This one was sent in to the Sunday Roast last week -

If a feeding team packs for the scrum, time is called off as currently happens - but as soon as the opposition packs, it's called back on (unless they unbind).

Ban the third man in
What is it?
Limits tackles to two men. A third man in would be allowed only when attempting to hold an attacker up over the try line.

Why Make/Change it?
Eliminates the situation where two players hold a player high and a third takes out the legs. Reduces potential injuries. Rewards one-on one tackling ability. Will lead to more offloading. Allows for removal of stripping rule. Ruins Sam Thaiday's tackle count.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
...................

Remove the stripping rule.
What is it?
With only two players allowed in the tackle, stripping the ball is permitted.

Why Make/Change it?
Simplifies rules. Rewards ball security.
