Rule tweaks incoming?

What happens if the ball goes over the 20 metre line on the full but is dropped? Or if it goes over the 20 metre line on the full then goes dead or over the sideline?

Are teams going to be penalised or do they get the ball back as per usual? If its a penalty then teams can stack the field between the 20 and 40 metre

It also means teams only have 20 metres of field to land the ball in now.

What about drop outs? Is there a restriction on long drop outs? They keep f**king the game up eith half assed rule changes

FMD the NRL have lost the plot with the kickoff rule changes.
If they want to prevent the collision , the simple solution is any kick off that goes beyond the 20m line , the play commences for the 20m line with a normal 6 tackle set.

Wouldnt surprise me if referee's are confused and they call every set from a kick off 7 tackles

Everyone would be confused and once again the NRL is changing the rules to either be safe or radical but makes things worse.

Teams will just drive it deep along the ground. Sideline most likely. Otherwise we will have RU style restarts and anything that resembles RU is poison for our game.

Will be interesting to see what the defending team does in response. Could potentially see more players stacking around the 30/40m trying to block the kick.

Also do we have any stats on which clubs suffer the most concussions from kick offs? My bet would be the Roosters with their neanderthal like approach to NRL. Certainly not led by the brightest bulbs in the league anymore.

Rules changes are one thing but don’t start ruining the fabric of the game.

Changing the kick off changes the fabric of the game and I’m not sure I’d be able to overcome that change as an NRL club member.

You'll get more elevated, hang time kicks.
Then you'll either get players gaining even more momentum running from further back into the defence or you'll see the defending team smashing static ball catchers.

It’s a minor change, you won’t even notice it, no need to tear up your membership just yet.

last year everyone was blowing up that the goal line drop out rule changes were going to ruin the game. Before that people said they’d NEVER watch league again when the shoulder charge and punching were banned lol

That would be too risky. Similar to the 7 tackle set if you kick it dead which still happens more often then it should.

How many times do players kick out on the full off kick offs? The game hasn't evolved enough for players to consistently kick it within 30m (Sounds ridiculous but its true, some parts of RL are very amateurish). Along the ground will be the safe option.

Those were also terrible changes
Don’t get me wrong, I like watching players punch each other in the face And the shoulder charge was a thing of beauty … except when it went wrong, like when the QLD Cup player died on the field, but bring back the biff I say.

its those damn mums who didn’t like it, they should take their kids over to play and watch afl, soccer or union if that’s how they feel.

Pete has been great but the game now needs a Dana White type leader. Footy players aren't normal, they are f**king animals.
This sport isn't just for anyone and that's a good thing.
