We have to keep blooding our juniors and let go of the old dogs.
This game against the Broncos shows we have no future with our old dogs in the backs.
For starters Good bye to Maguire he is not up to 1st grade standards anymore.
He is not going to get any better.
Also, good bye to Walker & Etu. They should not be allowed in first grade anymore.

it is going to take years to repair this mess
I don't agree.

In the last few games we have been very close, with the Canberra game aside, and I think that the problem we have with halves and outside backs has been glaringly obvious.

Canberra we only needed someone to take the pressure off Hayne. If Morgan and Atkins hadn't stuffed up a few chances against Manly we probably win. Last night, if Loko could catch and pass and Walker could tackle it would have been us up by 6 at halftime, and if there was more communication and better combinations out wide Horo could have had two instead of Brisbane getting a run-away try. The problems out wide end up being a 3-4 try swing last night.

With Hayne, Sandow and Reni (when does his contract run out?) creating problems for the defence with their creativity and ability to make breaks themselves, we only need some better quality wide-men and we are right up there in the top 4 IMO.

One centre, one winger please.

No shame in being belted by the RAIDERS, they are a very good team, well coached and bristling with talent. Just about to climb the ladder, slip into the eight, and go from there..
McGuire's defensive miss on Gillett at the end of the game V Broncos by moving out of the line was stuff you see in Under 10s...

Yes we need a Centre and a Winger. Walker surely won't be here next year neither will Hicks. So one good young winger we have Sio coming thru but not ready yet. Also a good solid centre we have Esi Tonga would love to have his older brother too.
Half is sorted and so is 5/8 (Sandow and Roberts). I think we are heading in the right direction next year but we have to put up with the rest of 2011 first.
Forward pack looks good for next year
Mannah, Keating, Fui, Hindy, Lasalo, Reni, Benny, Shack, Horo, Allgood, O'Hanlon.

I hope like hell our priorities are fixed on one or two quality outside backs and a good host of depth players in the outside backs.......
Thankfully, according to rumours, it sounds like that is what we are trying to do.......I HOPE!

We are closer to needing two of each than one.

Outside backs were largely the difference in the game last night IMO

It's not all bad, our depth should improve greatly for next year with young kids stepping up and replacing the old retiring players such as Hicks and Walker. At the start of this round my mind was fixed on two good, young outside backs for depth, and one quality winger. With Loko injured, possibly for 12 months, that leaves me with the opinion that we need a quality winger and a good centre.

This also means Tonga will definitely be playing first-grade in the centres next year (as if we didn't already know).....it raises the question though; who will be his centre partner whilst Jacob is injured, and who will be in the vacant wing spot? I'm happy to keep Atkins there as he is a finisher and a very safe winger, but I'd be inclined to move Sio onto the wing once he gets his fitness up.
And as far as the vacant centre position......well, Maitua has staked his claim for a back-row spot for next year, so it might mean that whoever drops out of Lasalo and Horo (from the back-row) may take that spot. Failing that, I would move Troy Savage there.

I don't see us needing any more signings.

I think we have a good looking squad for next year.

Kearney has the squad he wants and I'm expecting big things for the eels.

Do you think that maybe they are keeping things close to the chest, as they have been all year? Or did they actually say "no more recruiting"?

I don't know...I honestly don't know.

the same people who told me that things could be happening are now telling me that the books for our fulltime squad are closed, however in saying all that in reality only 3 gentlemen know what's going on and those 3 gentlemen have made a point of not even telling the board, chairman and CEO until they actually need to sign off on the contract so any rumours that appear from no where about players are absolute n crap in fact I haven't rumour that has come into fruition for over a year..

Well I am feeling very positive now.

Our team for next year looks like one of the strongest in the comp. We should be a top 4 side, and I can't wait for 2011.

what kids are going to step up next year? honestly - who? i am not sure

if you saw the nyc side last night and the last couple of months you'd be heartened at the form of some of those kids, I think there's a bit to look forward to there..

Peni Therapo
Ava
Marmin Barba
Vai Tautai
Matt Eisenhuth
PJ Asiata
Rory Brien
Jacob Gagan
Chris Ulugia.

they're are the more talanted bunch in squad and are kids who could make the step up with 12 to 18 months.
