Toelau dropped down the pecking order with his horrific attempt at tackling Wishart in the game vs Melbourne.

Hopefully he improves his defence this year rather than being the next Craig Trindall (on the field not in the kitchen).

Not sure I’d take Spencer back at his price. He’s a benchy, a very good impact prop but at the end of the day he’s just a bench player.

Also the smith Henry are solid toiers but nothing more comment is just stupid imo. Let’s wait and see. At Henry’s age, Yeo, Moses abd fish were nothing special, solid first graders but not stars. That was the commonly held opinion by all of us. Even at smiths age(25) those three were just emerging as genuine stars and rep players. Even after 2020 people had doubts whether Moses could fill a starting role. But the coaches stuck with them and build a dynasty around those 3 middles.

At 20 Spencer looked better then everyone I’ve mentioned at the same age. At 24 he is still the same player.

Agree,

Spencer hasn’t developed the motor the others have. They can all play long minutes where as Spenny only has short bursts in him.

I still think Henry will impress a lot of people this year. He’s my pick as the long term replacement for fish. I like Larry as a ball playing lock. Solid middle defender, smart player with a decent pass.

Watch the Highlights of Fish v sharks at Shark Park in 2016. Those 2 tries he scored showed plenty at 20 that neither of 2 have.

Nothing wrong with being toilers Welsch was one and have a reasonable career. Martin plays like a hard running prop so the side is still going to have something.

Having high work rate middles that can play big minutes is huge and allows a flexible bench, So it isn't a bad thing but where the side is still developing

I remember the game and I remember him struggling to have impact in the middle for years after that, he played a lot of edge early on.

But that doesn’t change anything I said. At 23 no one was saying fish is going to develop into a top prop in the game.

I just think people place far to much emphasis on impact and fail to see that a team of hardworking toilers of the smith/henry mould would absolutely flog a team of “impact player” in the Spencer mould every single time.

Give them the same spine and backs and I’m taking a pack full of Henry’s over a pack full of Spencer’s and putting house on it to.

Yes he struggled but he showed the potential to be a game breaking hard running forward

Henry is a different style prop, he has always been high workrate. Rarely breaks tackles, doesn't have an offload or passing game.

If he has never been that type why now would he develop that? So in that way the comparison is flawed

I totally agree. Yeo is a great example of a toiler. Toilers are always capable of adding something special on top. Where as I believe sometimes impact players struggle to be hard workers that play long minutes.

There was a kid playing last night no 18.....huge lump of a lad. He looked to have some real impact at a fraction of the price of Spencer. Although when he got tired, his impact faltered a little.

Whether he can build on his engine, who knows.

The description of the young Panthers on Foxsports.com
"Unrivalled Talent Factory." which ties in with the rinse/repeat statement from Cleary/Cameron,
"We are a Development Club."

Again, NO to Spencer.

Again with Yeo he debuted at centre so he had the talent he is showing now. It wasn't the case that Yeo was justing toiling away in the middle and hit a switch.

He was moved from the edge and found a role that he is amazing in

These are apples and oranges comparisons

A toiler? He's the 3rd best halfback in the NRL. The man is a god

That's fine but we did fluke this current batch all coming through together at once. Lightning in a bottle shit that won't happen again.

It is a credit that the players keep coming through the development system that has been put in place.
It is not a fluke, but the result of years of junior and pathway development.
