Fans will just look at the winger/centre jamming in on a tackle missing or something like that and blame them for a try whereas the coach will at the entire set starting from zero tackle and how quick that play the ball is.

Tbf it isn't like he's an absolutely awful defender. It's just Ivan's standards for defense are incredibly high I think. If you watch him and Cole defend and think about what Ivan really cares about I think it's pretty clear why Cole was talked about as maybe nabbing a bench spot.
