This is what Gus does best.Signs guys on lengthy contracts and when so things better is available he flicks them.
Players salaries should be made public. As much as people say our salaries aren't public they kind of are. You only have to jump on seek.com to see what each job/profession pays approximately.

Apparently Galvin's deal at Dogs is under 750k for first two years and only the 3rd reaches 750k.
Do fans accept this is above board? He turned down 800k offer from Eels and a supposed 1.1mill deal from Tigers.
I call bullshit. There would be TPAs bumping his deal right up. For a professional sport it's got some embarrassing loop holes
Gus Gould is embarrassing, a flat out liar. Can’t believe the NRL let him be all over the media, commentate and be a GM of a Football team.

Appears too many people were born yesterday. Gould lied, who cares? He has done this for years.

Manufactured outrage on Fox was hilarious. Anasta is never going to be one of the big boys as much as I'm sure he'd like to. He is a TV host with a small player base to management. Count your blessings Braith.

I dont mind Gould generally. I listen to his podcast semi regularly and he speaks well, has (generally) good ideas about the game and did a lot to dig our club out of a hole when we desperately needed it. I would find it very strange for this to get past the salary cap auditor though. A team literally wanted to pay the kid over $1m p/y a month or so ago. How in the world is a fee of under $750k allowed? Gould himself was vocal about the Parra Lomax signing not being above board in that respect, I'd love to see someone genuinely grill him on air about that but I sincerely doubt it will happen.

You could see it coming a month or so back. When the Galvin saga broke, he was very critical of him, saying he'd lost the trust of his team-mates, shouldn't have spoken out against the coach and even went as far to suggest it had damaged his brand as an asset going forward. The very next week, he was much much more conciliatory, saying there was likely more to the story, shouldn't rush to judge etc. Matthew Thompson even commented that he was doing a complete 180, a rare moment of challenge to Gould on the podcast.

People act like Gould gets so much benefit from being both in the media and the Managing Director of a football operation, but I think he gives away much more than he gets out of being in his position. He's not as savvy an operator in that area as people think.

Pretty much. Also sat there on air poisoning negotiations talking about how Galvin shouldn't be paid too much because it'd be too much pressure now he's taken a pay cut to go to the dogs.

Will never forget the years growing up in the 2000s hearing him torch Penrith routinely. Scathing in commentary (Probably right about a lot of it too). Not old enough to remember when he started writing for the SMH but Super League and post-SL I'm sure he had plenty to say about us then too.

Then a bizzare shift. What at the time was a weird article talking about Don Feltis and how so many people are doing good things out at our club. A week or two later and the bombshell broke that he had been signed on as GM. The shift in his opinion of the club was quite timely.

Have to get on the way back machine and find it sometime. It's how he operates. Where there is an agenda you will find Phil Gould.

1. Burton coming home? unlikely but yes we take him - do we play Blaise as a 14 or in the centres? Im also not against Burton in the centres but he doesnt have Kikau inside him so im not convinced he will be as effective

2. we dont need Gus - its perfect timing for Gus to leave Canterbury now as the squad is in really good shape and performing - the Bears or PNG should be going after him - he is ruthless enough to get a good team together - but once he starts meddling when its in good shape is when things come undone - get the popcorn ready for Canterbury :p

3. If we cant find a spot for Jack in the team then its time to move him on - who fits the squad better now - Cole or Toelau?

Schneids should be moved on - but he will be the cheapest option of Cole & Toelau and is defensively better than both. Maybe he is a necessary burden for another 12 months whilst the Flegg guys eventually get promoted to Cup.

Mitchy isn't half the player Nathan is

Sure but he's still doing that job so Cole wouldn't have much pressure going there playing 6. Even more with Iongi being a pretty good fullback. It's up to Panthers to not be stupid and block his path to consistent first grade with guys like Schneider.

Cole isn't good enough because he's been injured for 2 years. He might never reach his potential

Cole is a better defender than Brad and its not close.
