But Foran and Norman couldn't learn ;-)

Well they have learnt - I've seen both of them attacking on the right at times.

The reason they generally don't is because their skills are honed on the left, they have formed combinations with other players on the left, and their teams need them on the left providing a threat so the defence remains stretched across the whole field.

Same goes for right side players.

Why do you think modern halves (and edge forwards, centres and wingers) tend to favour one side of the field (if not exclusively staying there)? Do you think it's because they just forgot to practice on the other side?

That actually is your position.... nobody else says that! I think you also pretend that ball and matts doesn't exist...

Because I never gave Kearney or Stuart any credit for us winning Harold Matts while they were here?

IMO Harold Matts is all about the strength of the kids in your local area. Coaches don't deserve any credit for that, otherwise we've had nothing but gun coaches since 1970. It's SG Ball where the real recruitment/retention begins, because that is the grade in which most players turn 18.

Yes, you're right about Matts, but (in our case) the Ball squad is often a very similar shape to the Matts squad of years earlier (obviously some kids don't fatten up right to play Ball, etc etc).

You're right. However the SG Ball teams from clubs with the best academies are all reinforced by kids from Qld, NZ and country NSW. Plus the best kids from other Harold Matts teams, including ours. Which is why they beat us in SG Ball even though they coułdn't beat the same team when it was in Harold Matthews.

Thank f**k we finally started treating SG Ball like the NYC, rather than just assuming it would be strong, like we do with Harold Matthews.

Hence why we are fundamentally opposed with the proposed rookie draft.

Sounds about right. We've had a long history of SG Ball kids moving up to NYC. [although for some reason we had decided to play most of the SG Ball kids IN NYC for a number of years...]
- the more recent push has been on getting the right Matts kids through to Ball (well, technically that was always the key, but having the wrong talent scout meant we were keeping the wrong kids)

Here is a shit load of rumours courtesy of Sportal

1. The stars of the NRL sex tape to suddenly get the cold sweats when it's revealed not all copies of their bathroom dalliance were wiped from existence

2. Manly's restless stars to make another approach to management seeking releases. At least one will be granted his wish

3. A female with heavy connections to explode onto the NRL scene with revelations that will shock and have many running for cover

4. Two star players from separate clubs will seek releases to play in the UK Super League

5. A leading NRL star to be forced into retirement or an unexpected switch of clubs because his current club doesn't want him – not that he knows that yet

6. A one-time rep player will be moved on – and not just because of poor on-field form

7. SBW to strike a secret deal with Nick Politis to return to the Roosters in 2017 after representing New Zealand at the Olympics

8. The Tigers board to get cold feet and offer Mick Potter a one-year extension despite a disastrous end to the year

9. The Mole, Lurker and Buzz Rothfield sift through at least half a dozen offers from TV execs desperate for them to launch a rumours-based NRL show in 2015. They hold out for more money

10. Channel 9 will make a decision on Ray Warren's long-term successor – and it's not who you think

11. A NRL star with a fondness for female media members will again start working his magic once the season ends

12. Israel Folau to stay in rugby until at least the end of 2016 in the hope of playing in the Rugby World Cup and Olympics. He will then return to the NRL

13. Robbie Farah and Gorden Tallis to announce they will slug it out in a charity boxing match

14. Ricky Stuart will plead for patience and understanding – and declare there will be more dark days like this – after making history by becoming the first coach to guide separate clubs to consecutive wooden spoons.

15. A club official will face potential jail time after the long arm of the law finally catches up with him

16. Kurtley Beale will stick with rugby for one more season before joining an NRL club in 2016, possibly Canterbury

17. Cronulla would actually gain from ASADA-imposed suspensions as it would force Paul Gallen to rest up and channel all his energy into 2015. Maybe the whole shebang will have a silver lining for the Sharks!

18. Greg Inglis wins the Dally M but it's the behaviour of one guest and his partner that is the talk of the night

19. The weight of expectation will again prove too much for South Sydney as they bow out a week before the grand final

20. Manly and the Roosters will square off in the GF for the second year running - but this time the Sea Eagles get the cash
