They need their clubs to want to let them go as well. The Tigers are under cap pressure, which is why they let Takairangi walk away.

So they chased Takairangi till the 11th hour, then decided no.

So they obviously had some funds to be chasing him?

They have since released Blair also.

Interesting.

Sounds like Taylor didn't want to get into a bidding war to retain his young stars (or he was already in a handful of bidding wars) so decided to front load extensions. To do that you need cap space.

Cap pressure or not, all these r cases of clubs just looking to part with players they dont really want anymore for whatever reason.

I want Foran. Cool. I expect his signing by end of january - for 2015 of course.

It's been rumoured Foran is over the rubbish written about his contract with Manly etc.

We should be coming in with an offer he cant refuse and get manly to watch us.

I'm sure having Brad there and Watmough will work in our favour.

I'll check the Tigers website to see if they have announced in recent weeks gone past if they have given any of their stars extensions.

As Brad Arthur said yesterday, there is life without Jarryd.

You need to move on like everyone else has.

He also said that if things don't work out he willbe back playing with us. You said there was no chance of that.

I will add something I found out , the so called Third Party issues were paid and sorted before the special one left the building. Apparently, part of the agreement to come back to the Eels - hopefully not bulls**t, but the source was adamant and very believable.

People were concerned that there wasn't much out there in the market in availability for 2015.

This just goes to show that if we want anyone, we can get them.

Every player mention of late had deals with their current club but still left and went elsewhere.

Kennedy, Mateo, Watmough, Barba, Boyd, Blair, Neilsen, Buyuka and more.

These blokes as of a month ago where all signed at their club with one or 2 years left, since then they have all gone to other clubs.

If we want someone who is under contract, let's get him.

watmough wanted to move to us because of BA.

besides that everyone else was moved on by their club because their club didn't want them... = someone else's junk.

One of the bigger factors despite his 1yr relationship with Brad was we were/would be the only club in the NRL who would give him the kind of money he demanded.

Would I be wrong in saying he would be the highest paid backrower in the comp or close to at the age of 32 next year?

Why would the Head Coach state that Jarryd would never come back to the eels?

That would be stupid of him to say that when all along since he has left, the club has made it clear to the fans that jarryd is always welcomed back.

Of course he is gonna say the door is always open.

He would quite easily be the highest paid backrower in the comp.

Arthur said Hayne “looks happy” and confirmed that he expects the two-time Dally M Medal winner to return to the Eels if his ambitious cross-code dream fizzes out.
“I haven’t seen the finer details of it all, but my understanding is that if it doesn’t work out for Jarryd — number one it’s his priority and his preference, he’s guaranteed me he’ll be coming back to Parramatta; but number two, I also think it’s part of his contract agreement,” Arthur said.

I think when you're paying someone that much you need 20+ games from them every single year, plus they need to be available for every finals match. Otherwise 'normal' luck (the luck typically experienced by most teams in a given year) becomes horrendous luck if one of your 'standard' long term injuries (that hit all teams) hits your expensive star.

When you have more than one such player then you could say you're spreading the risk, but really you're just concentrating even more of your salary cap within a handful of players. Souths only got 18 games out of Isaac Luke this year but they got 24 out of Inglis and 26 out of Sam Burgess. Luke also missed the grand final, and against a better team than Canterbury (and there are several of those) I reckon they would have lost without him.

But basically I think Souths had all their eggs in three baskets. It worked for them this year and it worked for the Storm in 2012. But I also think those clubs have advantages under the salary cap (and outside as well no doubt) that we don't have.

I agree with the first two paragraphs, but you didn't answer my question. That's okay, though. Also, what advantages do those clubs have?

Im not fussed what we are paying Watmough. If he performs and gives a possitive influence to the other young guys he will be worth it.
Think Lussick and Allgood would be costing a fair chunk and provided nothing..

As far as AGE
watmough will plays at age 31-32-33 & 34.

Parker played at 32 this year and made the Australian team.Hoffman turn 31 bby the time 2015 kicks off.
Gallens 33.

3 yrs would of been perfect. With diets and facilities these days players careers should go 3-4 yrs longer.
