A proven NRL, Finals, and International half or a fat, useless forward that is part of one of the softest packs in the NRL? I know which one I'd prefer.

At least Penrith can get rid of Docker and Manu now. Good for them.

Merrin is a top shelf back rower, good running game, great off load and solid defender. He dosnet play for NSW for nothing. We have good back rowers but I'd love to have him at the Eels.

My only problem with Merrin is that his name is not appropriate for a big tough forward. It is, to be honest, a girl's name, and I'll always imagine him riding a girl's bike, sitting down to do a widdle etc. Unfair I know, but at least I'm honest about my prejudices. Can't wait for Bob Michelle or Roy Natasha to emerge from juniors.

See Souths have signed young prop Nathan Brown from the tigers. A few attitude problems but a quality player if the rubbish can be knocked out of him. Only young so he could mature and show the potential he has at NRL level. One I'd have liked us to pick up.

Maybe he had the same experience growing up as that boy named Sue?

I would like to see a plan that includes weakening the front office, reducing resources available to the NRL team, closing half of the home stadium, and banning rangas from attending games.

Its worked for the labour and liberal parties both state and federal so I think you are on a goer here mate, our club should do well.

Well Manly won a grand final with a rookie 7 and a number 6 in only his second full year of first grade.

It's more than three years later, both players have improved greatly and they've won nothing since.

So did they win in 2011 because they had great halves or did they win because they had decent halves on the cheap?

They had a f**king good team, didn't they. Three years ago, Jamie Lyon was arguably the best centre in the world; Whatmough was at his peak - as were the two Stuart brothers. And Steve Matai has probably been the most under-rated centre in the world for the last who knows how long. On top of that they had a smart, tough and clever dummy half and a very good forward pack. That's why they could get away with a pair of inexperienced halves. I know what you are saying - and I agree to an extent - but Sandow really is very erratic. In some ways, he plays like a very inexperienced half. I think he creates unnecessary confusion for his team-mates at times - something that Cherry-Evans and Foran didn't do, even when they were younger. Sandow has a lot of very good attributes; but I don't think we could win a premiership with him.
(Interesting to note that the last time we made a grand final, our half-back was almost the exact opposite of Sandow.)

How can you compare the value of an edge forward with half ?

SBW vs DCE as an example. SBW being intrumental in winning the 2013 GF - though SBW often attacked wide as an extra centre too. In reference to Foran and DCE, SBW is worth the same top $$$.
