Why is some of Foran's money counted as 3rd party but none of Merrin's is?

Wouldn't it be $550k+ 3P for Merrin, and around $850k + 3P for Foran?

Third party deals also depend on a players marketability and I'd say foran is at least twice as marketable as Merrin. Thats also doesn't mean foran will get twice as much third party deals but it means they'll get the same.

Thats pretty much what I was saying, you cant compare them, so not sure where you're going with this.

Well my point is that you can compare them, and so do the clubs - they all get paid in Australian dollars. I'm certain Trent Merrin will be earning more than some NRL starting halves. In fact I'm sure he is already.

You can argue semantics all day about whether you consider a player to play middle or edge or whether he is considered a better player than another half, but comparing Merrin to Foran is how this started and it seems most people agree.

No, it seems you're the only one who thinks you can't compare the two. Everyone else seems to have a fair idea of how much they think Merrin is worth compared to Foran, and vice versa.

If Merrin is worth X then then Foran is worth X plus Y. And therefore Norman is worth X minus Z. You can certainly compare them.

Gee HJ you bring up a good point and get some $martA$$ comments,That really pi$$es me off about this forum.

Its like the whole Hoppa/Sandow is not on so much but when he leaves it becomes well he was on so much.
If a team needs a player more in that position than why wouldn't they pay overs for him? Supply and demand.....
And as far as Merrin goes im sure Gus and co would have some 3rd party deal arranged behind the scenes.

I agree, irrespective of positions all players must be comparable on a $$ aspect and in reality big money should be spent on players that win you games. They would normally be your halves, fullback and hooker but there are exceptions like SBW and Graham. Watmough would probably be a forward we over paid for but you do that when you are after a specific player rather then a player to fill a role (supply v demad). If Merrin is getting more then 60-70% of watmough cap space wise then he is being over paid by a lot. Merrin is mo match winner, good player yes. It is still questionable if he even a good origin player, for me any more 5-600k is insane.

Foran on the other hand makes cheaper players look better, peats is in the same class. These guys are big money players that will win you games. Gould has lost it on this one IMO

They must have bought him for his leadership. The Duke doesn't make mistakes.

Well- look how the Duke handled Idris and Merrin. Two Huge signings without a peep really. I admire that-its class.

When we chase a player it seems to become a media circus.

Joey Grima just resigned head coaching job at London Broncos a month into the new season due to personal reasons bringing family back to Aus. Brilliant coach hopefully we can find a job for him. He used to coach Hayne and co in the Harold matts / SG ball.

Not much out Penrith way, I mean Penrith is hill-billy country and there ain't no oil fields out there ..... yet, so the nearest 3rd party backer for Merrin would be something like Warragamba Dam Fluoridation Services.

Have a good one.

You're the one who mentioned edge forwards and halves. I already said Merrin plays in the middle.

Anyway, SBW is in the top five players in the world. Merrin isn't, but then neither are most halves.

Twizz is just expanding definitions. Edge forward refers to backrowers, and Merrin is a middle edge forward.

It is far more useful than 'tight forwards'; which either make the bloke sound cheap, or make him sound like a prop. But middle edge forwards dont play like props, they tend to work more defensively, and have kore skillfull offensive games.

The game has changed Pou, it is 2015 and your archaic definitions are out of date.

Glad to have helped everyone out.

There's some crap in one of the papers about leaks and infighting at the club and that Brad's got the shits with it all.

I CBFd find a link for it.

Do we still have dickheads at the club who wish to destabilize rather than seek success ?

Until we ban someone whose name rhymes with gitzherald, and his good mate whose name rhymes with bagrolo, I reckon those problems will just keep on going.

Yeah Andrew Webster filed that in his Fearless Predictions for the season ahead article in the SMH.

SMH also the outlet that broke the "Foran signs with Eels" story last week. I wouldn't put it past some of those with their noses still out of joint to have leaked the Foran signing to their good mate Proszenko to to jeapordise the whole thing. ProShenks is prolly the one giving Webster his mail Re a DA/BA fallout.

If Arthur walks away this year, as Webster speculates, then that'll do me. I'll just start lobbying for a new side based on the Central Coast or Perth or Mars and start following them

PARRA MATTERS

I can exclusively reveal Brad Arthur will publicly blow up about the internal politics at Parramatta at some stage soon, maybe before the Easter Bunny comes. He's said to be angry at the leaks, the backroom fighting, and as much as everyone at Parramatta denies it there is so much talk about a fallout with football general manager Daniel Anderson it ain't funny.
