Not in a spine position when you are trying to break down 17 of the best defenders in the game.

Particularly how defence is set up these days. You are inside the 10 and only have a marker and the Fullback defends in the line.

Hookers have plenty of help in defence
Hookers that need help in defence might get it.
You said it yourself, 17 of the best defenders in the game. He makes that team everyday of the week. Unfortunately, he’s exactly the type of player that Queensland have been picking for years.

We keep dicking around trying to find flashy “pull a team apart” type players. Its dumb.

We should be picking players that aren’t afraid to get up and whack the Maroons in defence. The attack will take care of its self.

NSW doesn’t get Origin.

This. You can shut down their halves but then Walsh burns you.

You can rush their line because then Grant burns you.

As opposed to having Kenny that doesnt run or kick and Teddy who only runs and doesn't ball play.

The halves would get belted every set

If a side is attacking the line.
They play one marker.

As opposed to the attacking side that has 2 in there.

That extra defender along with the fullback are in the line. It gives the defending side 12 against 11.

That allows the side defending to ensure no one is isolated - ie a weaker defender in the 9.

Club games you have a few weak links because players are of different skill levels. In Origin you have only elite guys so all can hold their line and follow the training

This is why Cleary gets no space the 3 or 4 defender can rush and pressure him because they still mark up correctly

Thank you, but this has nothing to do with what I’m talking about. Zero.

See how they go on the back of a forward pack that’s had the snot knocked out of them. Thats kinda my point.
lol. I was more referring to the fact they are shit defenders.

Origin has always been geared toward QLD, if we were dominant it would die. It's too big a cash cow to kill, so here we are.

We dont help ourselves either, the token Manly picks in the Bozo era, the token Knights picks for "reasons" the unholy trinity of Gal, Bird & Farrah, and so on and so on.

QLD having Smith, Slater, Thurston, GI & Cronk for so long didn't help either, but there were a few robberies in that era too, even with the unholy trinity stinking it up for us.

Qld mentality to Origin is superior to NSW - simple as that

Qld can win origin - once Origin 3 is over - the focus on who can make the finals begins.

id happily let Qld win 10 in a row if it meant Penrith won another title in that 10 year period :)

Mitch has started in two GF's, he is held in the highest regard by the Worlds best rep player, a prop, and people say he is just an NRL player. I find it extraordinary that people ignore what JFH said. A man who plays with him. A man who is side by side with him when things are getting tough. JFH didn't say "I remember when Api came on for Mitch and started with his amazing ball playing".

I have heard people say that Mitch only started the 22 GF because Api was injured. That could be true, but the demolition of the Eels wasn't going to happen with Api, that is not his game. When he came on, the game was already won. The Eels were on the ropes, reeling under the physical onslaught.

This Origin discussion is exactly why Qld win. NSW love flashy, fancy Dan's. The flashier the better. Qld love toughness, they demand it. NSW want shiny, tall, Guardsman. The glint from their buffed boots and polished buttons, dazzling in its shininess. The precision in their drill moves, awe inspiring and intimidating. QLD want SAS, ugly, dirty, wiry mofos who couldn't give a f*ck about looking good, they want to kill you and they don't care if its with a bayonet, a bullet, cheese wire or a lump of 4 x 2 with a nail in it. They will, bludgeon, slice, fillet, saute, drown, stab or bash you. Whatever it takes. No matter. You end up dead.

"NSW are better on Paper, they have more to choose from". I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I could upgrade to Ducati Panagale. NSW might be better on paper, but Qld are tougher. Game over.

Gus is our most decorated Blues coach because he is about character and toughness. He wants gladiators. In 89 he signed Canterbury players to teach the Panthers what it takes win. How tough you need to be. Peter Kelly, Chris Mortimer and Peter Tunks were not signed because of their ball playing skills. They were signed because they were hard bastards.

Will we ever learn?

QLD and NSW were neck and neck for Origin wins until their spine for over a decade became:

Slater
Lockyer/Thurston
Cronk/Lockyer
Smith

QLD dominated for years by having the best players.

Smith was a good defender but didn't belt blokes. Lockyer and Thurston were poor tacklers. None of that group of playmakers were known for their aggression.

Unless space cadet is coaching the best team on paper should win origin.

Origin is for fans of loser NRL teams. I care more about Penrith winning a Jersey Flegg game than NSW winning a series
This, Yes -

Hands up anyone who would take a NSW series win if the cost was one of our rep players going down with a season ending injury???

Not me thats for sure

I'll be happy if Cleary was replaced by Mitchell Moses.

Which is?

I get you like to over hype our guys but there is nothing wrong with having some good NRL players as opposed to Origin guys in our side

You clearly aren’t getting what I’m saying.

“Mitch is the sort of player that NSW should be considering.”

If you think that’s “over hyping” you’re mental.

I wouldn't rule Kenny out. Combos are always considered by rep selectors.

Injuries play a part too. Korisau and Cook. Followed by Robson maybe? If they want to run with two 9's then he could very well feature. A bit like McInnes he would play some tough minutes and just tackle.

Also its not so daft if you think Cleary is our MVP. Less cooks (Damien) in the kitchen. Tedesco is also guilty of doing this at times. A good coach should be able to fix that though.

Kenny's price goes up as he is now a rep 9. But the experience might just make him a better player.
