The reported numbers are a difference of $350k per year. Obviously that delta was material enough for him to jump. He has achieved alot in his career. If he can turn the tigers around, that's a bonus.

Panthers have ten days to convince him to change his mind before it’s official

To be honest, if Penrith had to decide between Luai and Edwards they made the right call. So much of their game revolves around their back 3 making huge metres at the top of their sets. Edwards catches a kick 10-15m out and tackle 3 is on the halfway line. Luai was a luxury for them, who definitely contributed to their success, but if you were to prioritise players to keep, then Edwards, Cleary and multiple forwards would be ahead of him. Could even argue their wingers were more important.

From our POV, we have a fullback who offers good kick returns and yardage, our biggest problem this season was how ineffective our attack was in the opposition red zone. Luai should help fix that. If you were to make a list of reasons we struggled this season, a toothless attack would be number one with a bullet.

In hindsight they might have wanted to retain Jack Cogger
