He wouldn't, but the Knights obviously didn't want to have him on the books at $800k and they don't want to pay the shortfall between that and the Phins or Dragons offer. I can only guess they didn't want to pay $500k gap to have $300k to acquire replacement player.

He will probably end up going. Just depends who blinks first knights or dragons

your figures about how much they want Newcastle to chip in aren’t far off from what I read

Depends how the Tigers use him but Bird not a bad pick up for mine if he's to be used as a bench utility and back up centre. He's a grand final winner that has played Origin and you always want that experience around a team and on your bench.
