Rumoured Targets 3

Appreciate it.

Will go through them all and give my 2c rather than just saying no to Brooks.

So going purely off this list, which doesn't include QCup etc..

I'm not getting into spine options - there aren't really any feasible ones that are worth the investment. Maybe Madden. Walter would be a great 14 but is starting 9 for the Broncos/his dad when fit.

Backs worth a dart throw imo as they have more upside than what we have -
Hoeter, Oates, Talau, Tass, Bradley (think this would be a great move), Naiduki, Perham - these last two both stuck at the Eels unlikely to get a run.

Forwards - I'm particularly interested in edge or some variation for us in the middle - Palasia, Pele (think he signed with the Dogs today though?), Burns, Crichton the pick of the bunch.
I think both Eisenhuth boys are middling but could be something different to what we have. Tom has provided helpful flexibility in a 15 role for the Storm but has been usurped by Loiero. Off the list is Sam McIntyre from the Titans. Think he'd help out too.

I think there are enough options there, that without turning us into world beaters, are realistic players that could improve the side from where it is now and have upside. It'd mean seeing less of Tuala, Hunt, Fitz etc.

Strengthen those spots, avoid someone like Wade Graham for "experience", avoid Chee Kam types because we can't keep formerly healthy players on the field let alone those with extensive durability concerns.

Not gonna turn us into top contenders but churns the roster, gives us better depth with some players with upside and doesn't break the bank while we look for key players.
End rant.

The Parramatta Eels are making a last-ditch bid to sign Knights veteran Dave Klemmer for the rest of the season.

The club has until midnight today to convince the Knights to release the former Kangaroos forward for the remainder of the season.

Parramatta had originally tried to sign Marty Taupau from the Manly Sea Eagles but it was rejected by coach Des Hasler.

Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien is meeting with club officials this afternoon to make a call on the release request.

Klemmer is on an $800,000-a-year deal at the Knights until the end of next season.

Interesting.

Gus also noted the method in which you currently loan players is quite an odd one;

Basically we have to release Klemmer (which also means no more paying him for the remainder of this year). Then the Eels sign him and after that contract is up we'll sign Klemmer to a new deal. Whether it goes back to what it was before I guess would be in good faith or some written agreement.

I think the Tigers were so smart in allowing Nofoaluma to go to the Storm. Not only does he have a chance of winning a premiership but he'd be respected enough that any ideas and feedback he brought back to the Tigers would be listened to and respected. So essentially it's a win-win for them, IMO.

Don't like that these moves are becoming a regular thing in the NRL, and the cap space it saves us is probably minimal at this stage and inconsequential for this season. Already have plenty of space as is.

Would love to get out of his $800k deal for next season completely, but next best thing would be offering "we'll send him to you now and keep paying him, if you chip in the amount owed next season instead", or asking for a young player in return. Don't think it's worth doing from our perspective otherwise.

It could aid us in frontloading someone to open up more cap for next season or beyond.

It may help towards getting Pryce and/or KPP here.

I'm definitely not against it. I would love if Klem helped them win a comp rather than fade into the misery off season. Also helps the relationship between clubs if we ever needed a loan then Parra may assist in the future and they usually are a club with strong depth.

Why the f**k would we want to get rid of our best forward and only bloke in our pack that looks like giving a complete f**k each week

Madness
So he can come to us for a few months and look like the only bloke in our squad who looks like giving a complete f**k every alternate week.
Heck the way we’ve been playing, he could rock up Friday 30 minutes before kickoff, sitting in Sterlo’s Bar, get a 3 minute cameo at end of game and still be best on ground for us

He has been a great servant to the club the past few years and he isn't going to be in his prime much longer. I think it'd be great to let him play some finals footy.

So if he stays he is paid until our games are over, last round.
If he goes would the payment, remainder of contract, be the same but have to play additional games depending on how far Eels go into finals.
Of course the plus is he may win a G/Final
can anyone explain please

Assuming we get him back at the end of the year

Even then id be concerned by him leaving the playing group to do a cameo elsewhere

i did above. He’d be released from his contract with us and sign a contract with the Eels. In which they’d pay him for as long as his service is needed this year.

Similar to why I was ok with Barnett being loaned out, we get to give some young guys real game time and not garbage time in the last 15 when we’re down by 20.

All contracts are until Oct 31. If we let him go then he's on Parra's book until Nov 1.

It would f***ing kill me if he helped them win a comp.
I’m what context? As in you’d just hate to see them win it and one of our players helped?

Because it’s not for his lack of trying to help us!

I don’t think many share the same views as me about loaning. My thought is it can be beneficial for players to see how these top clubs operate and bring something back with them, all while we give some inexperienced guys some real game time which they’ve severely lacked during COVID times.

We can send Parra Phoenix Crossland while Moses’ thumb heals up too.

What’s gonna happen is Ells get Marty now +1. Eegles get Klemmer now +2 and Knights get a bloke named Greg.

Already got a fair bit to front load contracts with as is and I believe there's a limit to how much a club can do that in a season.

If it were to go towards something tangible like getting the transfer fees for the English kids done ASAP then sure, otherwise helping out a team for another $150k~ maybe when you've already got plenty doesn't seem worth it to me.

Don't know how much more he has to gain from training with a good club given his experience and CV. He should already be one blokes driving those standards here.
