He was never going to re-sign with the Storm unless there were a lot of clauses in his contract, despite what the media was reporting

Very limited FG opportunities for a long time there.

I reckon the storm would give him the get out clause if Hughes re-signs but not that loan deal in 2026. What's the point of having a backup halfback if they're playing for someone else.

They loaned out Harry Grant, but I guess Cam Smith missed about 3 games due to injury in his entire career, so they felt a bit more secure there.

I’m not sure they’d put in the formal guarantee either tbh. I think it sends a bit of a weird message to Jahrome. He could still have as long as 7 years left, and they’ll want him to play all of them with the Storm.

It may also make them a less desirable destination for young spine talent if they send a “this guy is the heir apparent” kind of message. A club that successful and respected doesn’t let a player agent for their back up half dictate terms to them. I’m sure they’ll back their talent ID and reputation to secure a replacement well before they actually need one.

I don’t mind either way if we sign Pezet but really don’t want him on a loan. Given his age and stage of his career it will only help the Storm him getting that experience

How much is he realistically worth? and how much would it take to pry him away from the Storm?

The way to market looks, and our dire situation maybe he is worth a Ponga style punt...

Wouldn't want him on loan though.

Just purely on the basis that he has some potential and the dire lack of halves I’d offer him about 500k. Will likely need a lot more though.

He’s definitely not a Ponga style punt though. Ponga was a sure thing. If Pezet cracks on he’s definitely better than what we already have, but whether he does or not remains to be seen. They played us in R3 when our attack was at its absolute worst and somehow the Storm’s was even worse. Definitely not going to write him off based on his FG appearances so far, he’s still young and in a difficult position. You just knew looking at Ponga there was something there though. I personally haven’t seen that yet with Jonah so I won’t be devastated if we missed out.

I reckon it’s just a lot easier to tell if a fullback prospect is gonna pan out than a halfback though. And in terms of % of the cap, we essentially paid Kalyn what would now be $900K per season when we signed him. I reckon about $5-600K is a number which represents a fair bet on what Jonah has going for him talent-wise, balanced against how he’s performed in the chances he’s gotten so far and the fact he’s coming off major injury.

I was thinking a bit over that considering it's nearly the average NRL salary these day and the position is play maker. Statistically he is a risk though, he's a higher likelihood to do do another ACL

How much you think he's on at the Storm? I wonder of that is enough to get him to pack the bags

Jonah hopefully is mature enough to realise his father was a victim of where the club was at the time. It would be something I am sure Sully and AOB know will require addressing when talking to Anasta. But Braith would be the right man for that. He has been there himself as a player.

Definitely. At the same time though I’d have no issues throwing a large potential type contract at the likes of Lachie Galvin who’s younger, same with Cleary at a younger age. Not saying Pezet won’t make it, but I’m not seeing him as a sure enough prospect that we need to be overpaying him based on potential either. Luckily we have POS on board who’s probably the best in the game at knowing whether a young player will crack on or not and how much we should offer to try and sign him.
