Rumoured Targets 3

Knights have a golden opportunity to become the #1 regional club of choice for the players I mentioned, provided they get it right off field and show ambition to be genuine contenders rather than signing an underperforming coach to a 5 year extension because he's old mates with the guys running the club.
It is a standout destination for any player looking to raise a family . The Knights have a great advantage rather than anything negative. It's all a matter of marketing and managing the media.

It can be debated whether a half who basically just plays a side of the field is worth $1.3 million… but that’s what Jahrome Hughes is, and no one would blink an eye over him getting paid that. Scoring and setting up lots of tries in a winning team obliterates all objections.
At 24 he has plenty of time to develop his game. If no ratchet clauses are in his deal 1.3 could very well develop to be a great deal.

The Knights have 2 choices 1) Brown or someone similar (there's no one else on the horizon) 2) Stay the same, sometimes make the 8, and say bye bye to Ponga

Let us hope it works out. And if it does not then we are in for more of a bumpy ride to the top four for many years to follow. But we at least had a crack at turning us into a side which players wish to be at.

The Dylan Brown talk has all gone quiet over the last few days hasn’t it. I’m wondering if he’s either signed with us and everyone’s waiting for the cooling off period to end so it can be announced. Or maybe his manager is still trying to squeeze a better deal out of Parra. Who knows…

Looking at how Moses's new contract was handled, I think they have accepted they were going to lose Brown. Hopefully we have snagged him up.

Agree with the above. It seems everyone is keen for the deal except for Parra and Brown, but it's an almost impossible contract to turn your back on. Which is the point of the contract. Not sure how I feel about taking on a reluctant new star signing, I guess you just trust that he'll adapt and enjoy his time once his feet hit the ground.

This is pretty much my take on it. I feel that the whole point of this entire thing was for Brown to get Parra to upgrade his deal but when we came in with a monster offer he’s basically in a position where he’d be mad not to take it.

I highly doubt that Newcastle is his favourite club that he’s always wanted to play for since he was a kid, but if we’re only looking to sign guys who have that attitude then literally we’re only going to have local juniors in the team. This isn’t the 80s anymore. Let’s face it, most players move clubs for money and/or long term security rather than being desperate to play for that club and represent that community. These are things that make nice media padding and the Knights (just like other clubs) love to spruik how much every player bleeds red and blue but at the end of the day the players turn up to work every day because they’re paid to.

I don’t want to jinx it but the more I think about it the more I think we’ve got him. What NRL player would turn down a guaranteed $13m over 10 years?

He could retire at the end of that contract and never work a day in his life again and have a great life, have a house on a cliff top overlooking the beach, afford a great education for his kids and set his family up for generations.

On top of all of that he’d be playing next to a generational talent and if he’s serious about how good he is then he would have to think he’d have a chance of winning multiple premierships during that time.

As much as I’d like Brown to come, I wouldn’t want him to if when he arrives he just doesn’t put in or keep trying to improve just because he’s here to collect a pay packet. He’s definitely not the finished product but his development seems to have stalled.

Ponga came for money but once he did he completely embraced the club and developed further into the player he is now. That’s the attitude I’d want Brown to have…if not would prefer us not to sign him.

If he was in the cooling off period, Parra would have leaked the news to media to spoil Newcastle’s big announcement.

He is only 25. We would have him at the club for his best years. The more I think about it, the more I like it. Who else we gonna spend the money on? Maybe we get lucky and the cap goes up 200% in 5 years. Could be a steal by then.

If the club negotiates anything above the existing percentage adjusted to the cap increase, they are crazy. Which means you are all likely correct.
